European Championship

The European Championship , often just abbreviated as EM or EUM, refers to a sporting competition held by individual athletes, individual teams or national teams on a European level , usually in the form of a tournament , which is held by the respective European association and for which the participating athletes or teams usually agree must qualify athletically in continental qualifying competitions or at national level. The first women's field hockey tournament was held in 1980 in Lille, France , and was won by the Dutch women's national hockey team . Indoor hockey tournaments have been held for men since 1974 and for women since 1975.

European Athletics Championships are competitions organized by the European Athletic Association, the European continental federation, to determine European champions in the individual athletics disciplines.

The European outdoor title competitions have existed since 1934. Until 1966, with a war interruption (1942), they were held every four years at the “half-time” of an Olympiad.
