European Fencing Championships 1981

The European Championships in fencing in 1981 found in Foggia instead. It was the first European championships since 1936. From 1921 to 1936 international championships were held, which were referred to as European championships. However, they were also open to non-European participants and have been officially designated as World Championships since 1937 . In 1981 four individual competitions were held, there were no team competitions. The most successful nation was Italy with three gold medals.
