European Fencing Championships
The European Fencing Championships are an annual sporting event in which the European champions are determined in the three types of fencing foil , epee and saber , with a distinction being made between individual and team competitions as well as women and men.
The first European Fencing Championships took place in Foggia in 1981 . After three years, no further European fencing championships were held due to unclear responsibilities. Only in 1991 was another competition held in Vienna and the “Union Européenne d'Escrime” was founded on October 26, 1991 (a few years later renamed “The European Fencing Confederation (EFC)”, in French “ Confédération Européenne d'Escrime” (CEE) "). Since then, the EFC has been the organizer and the annual cycle has not been interrupted again.
Until 1936, only fencers from the European associations took part in the fencing world championships , so they were also European fencing championships.
