The European Fencing Confederation (EFC for short) is the European continental federation in fencing . The association was founded in Vienna in 1991 and organizes the European fencing championships every year .
founding
The association was founded on October 26, 1991 in the Austrian capital Vienna as the European Fencing Union . Formerly the European continental association was called Union Européenne d'Escrime , but was renamed to the English name after a short time. Since 2009 the association has been called Confederation instead of Union .
Members
The EFC brings together 46 national associations. This includes all European associations, as well as the associations of Turkey, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia and Israel. With around 30,000 active members, the EFC is by far the largest continental fencing association.
organization
The most important body of the association is the executive committee. This consists of ten members, elected by the General Assembly, who come from 10 different national associations. The Executive Committee is presided over by a President. The current President Stanislaw Posdnjakow was elected at the General Assembly of the EFC from June 20 to 26, 2016 in Toruń , Poland . He prevailed against his French competitor Catherine Defoligny.
tasks
The EFC organizes fencing tournaments in Europe, including the European Championship. In addition to the organization of tournaments, several commissions work on individual issues relating to European fencing:
- the Athletes Commission, represents the interests of the athletes
- the tournament commission, responsible for organizing tournaments
- the medical commission
- the Marketing Commission, markets the sport
- the referees committee , represents the interests of the referees
- the trainer commission, represents the interests of the trainers
- the Veterans Commission
- the Disability Commission, advocates the integration of disabled people into sport and supervises wheelchair fencing
- the finance commission
- the women's commission, supervises women's fencing.
