The Bonn Student Union is believed to be the oldest student union in Germany. It is responsible for the economic, health, cultural and social support of the students of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and the Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg , thus for about 36,000 students.
history
The student union was founded in September 1919 as Verein Studentenwohl e. V. founded and in 1921 in the association Studentenwerk Bonn e. V. converted. Since the student unions in Dresden and Berlin did not come into being until December 1919, the Bonn student union describes itself as the oldest student union in Germany. According to other sources, the student welfare association was not founded until 1920.
By the law on the student unions in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia passed on February 27, 1974 , the Bonn student union was converted into an institution under public law on March 1, 1974 .
tasks
According to § 2 of the North Rhine-Westphalian Student Union Act, the Studentenwerk provides social and economic services for students, in particular through:
" 1. the establishment, provision and maintenance of economic and social facilities,
2. the insurance of students against illness and accident, unless otherwise regulated by law,
3. health care measures for the students,
4. promotion of cultural interests of the students by providing their rooms as well as in accordance with their statutes,
5. Measures of study support, in particular when used for the implementation of the Federal Training Support Act. "
Services
The Studentenwerk Bonn operates 20 catering facilities, including four canteens , five bistros and six cafeterias . These are supplied with around 1.75 million meals a year. Furthermore, there are around 4200 places available in 35 residential complexes . These are not only rented to students at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, but also to those at the Alanus University for Art and Society and Koblenz University . It implements the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG), grants graduation loans (DAKA) and has personal budget and financing advice. In four day-care centers , one of which has been certified as a Family Center in North Rhine-Westphalia since July 2010 , around 190 children between the ages of four months and school enrollment are looked after by around 40 educational staff . Language promotion and the "inclusion of multicultural coexistence " form the focus of the educational work. In addition, the Studentenwerk Bonn maintains a psychotherapeutic care center for students with phobic disorders , depressive moods, concentration disorders, and psychosomatic illnesses .
