Angelo Mazzoni (born April 3, 1961 in Milan ) is a former Italian epee fencer and today's fencing trainer.

successes

Angelo Mazzoni was world champion with the team in Denver in 1989 , in Lyon in 1990 and in Essen in 1993 . In 1990 he also won silver in the singles in Lyon, as he did in the team competition in Barcelona in 1985 . In addition, he secured four bronze medals at world championships. In 1981 Mazzoni became European champion in Foggia and two years later won the silver medal in Lisbon .

He took part in the Olympic Games six times : in 1980 he finished 29th in Moscow , four years later he improved to ninth place in the individual competition in Los Angeles . With the team he reached the semi-finals, in which Italy defeated France 4-9. The Italian team won the battle for third place 8-2 against Canada , so that he received the bronze medal together with Stefano Bellone , Sandro Cuomo , Cosimo Ferro and Roberto Manzi . In Seoul in 1988 he just missed another medal win with the team in fourth place, while he finished 25th in the individual. In 1992 he finished the Olympic Games in Barcelona in sixth place in the individual and fifth in the team competition. At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta , he was eleventh in the singles, whereas he reached the final with the team, which Italy won 45:43 against Russia . Besides Mazzoni Sandro Cuomo and were Maurizio Randazzo thus Olympic champion . Mazzoni was able to repeat this success at the following games in Sydney in 2000 , when he won gold again with Paolo Milanoli , Maurizio Randazzo and Alfredo Rota . The Italians won the final game against France with 39:38. In the individual competition, Mazzoni achieved 23rd place.

After his career as an active fencer, Mazzoni began to work as a fencing trainer. From 2008 to 2014 he was in charge of the Swiss national teams for men and women. After a short break in 2014, he joined the Russian Fencing Association.

In 2000 Mazzoni was named Commendatore of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic .
