Hugues Obry (born May 19, 1973 in Enghien-les-Bains ) is a former French sword fencer . He is an Olympic champion and was world and European champion.

successes

Hugues Obry won numerous medals in the individual and also with the team. In 1998 he was European champion in Plovdiv and 2003 in Bourges with the team . In addition, he took second place with this in 1998 and 1999 . At world championships he succeeded in 1998 in La Chaux-de-Fonds winning the title in the individual competition. With the team he repeated this success in Seoul in 1999 and in Lisbon in 2002 .

Obry took part in the Olympic Games twice. In 2000 he reached the final in the individual competition in Sydney , where he was defeated by Pawel Kolobkow with 12:15. After victories over Hungary and Cuba , he also entered the battle for gold with the team, which the French team lost to Italy with 38:39. Four years later he reached the final again in Athens with the team after victories over the United States and Germany . France won against Hungary 43:32, Obry was Olympic champion together with Fabrice Jeannet , Jérôme Jeannet and Éric Boisse . After the Olympic victory he was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor .

After his active career he started working as a fencing trainer. From 2012 to 2016 he was the national coach of the French epee team, after which he took over the coaching position for the Chinese national team.
