Uwe Proske

Uwe Proske (born October 10, 1961 in Löbau ) is a former German fencer . He celebrated his greatest successes after German reunification.

Uwe Proske was the best epee fencer in the GDR in the 1980s . At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, he finished 34th as a single starter.

After reunification, he was part of the team that won team bronze at the 1991 World Fencing Championships . In 1992 the fencer of SC Berlin took part in his second Olympic Games in Barcelona . The team included two fencers, Elmar Borrmann and Arnd Schmitt , who had won silver with the team from the Federal Republic of Germany in 1988. Vladimir Resnichenko won bronze with the Soviet team, only the Pole Robert Felisiak was not at the start in 1988. This selection with fencers who belonged to four different states in 1988 won the 1992 final against the Hungarians.

For winning the gold medal, he received the silver bay leaf on June 23, 1993.

In 2004 Uwe Proske was elected President of the Berlin Fencing Association, and in 2007 he was confirmed in this office. In 2006 he was also elected as a specialist in men's swords for the German Fencing Association. He tries to support fencing through these honorary positions.
