Yannick Philippe André Borel (born November 5, 1988 in Pointe-à-Pitre , Guadeloupe ) is a French sword fencer . He is an Olympic champion and has won gold several times at world and European championships.

successes

Yannick Borel has achieved countless successes internationally. In 2016 he became European Champion three times in a row in Toruń , 2017 in Tbilisi and 2018 in Novi Sad . With the team he secured the title in Sheffield in 2011 and again in 2016. With this he also won gold at the European Games in Baku . At world championships , he won titles in the team competitions in 2011 in Catania , 2017 in Leipzig and 2019 in Budapest . In 2012 in Kiev , the team with Borel took second place.

The right-hander took part in the Olympic Games twice. In 2012 , he finished seventh in London . In the quarterfinals he was defeated by Bartosz Piasecki with 14:15. Four years later, at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , Borel reached the quarterfinals again in the individual competition, which he lost to Benjamin Steffen with 10:15. With the team he reached the final after victories against Venezuela and Hungary , which was won against Italy with 45:31. Borel became Olympic champion together with Gauthier Grumier , Daniel Jérent and Jean-Michel Lucenay .

Borel has a son and a daughter. After the Olympic victory he was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor .
