Marcello Bertinetti (fencer, 1885)

Marcello Bertinetti (born April 26, 1885 in Vercelli ; † January 2, 1967 there ) was an Italian fencer and two-time Olympic champion .

He fought for FC Pro Vercelli . His son Franco Bertinetti won twice with the Degen team at the Olympic Games in 1952 and 1956 , his grandson Marcello Bertinetti also competed, he took part in the 1976 Summer Olympics.

He was also football players and player-coach in the SG Pro Vercelli with which he in 1908 was Italian champion. It was only on his initiative that a football section was founded in 1900, making him one of the club's founding fathers.

The Italian city of Vercelli named the street Via M. Bertinetti after him .

In 1908 at the Olympic Games in London , Marcello Bertinetti won silver in the saber team. He finished fourth with the epee team. In 1924 at the Olympic Games in Paris , Bertinetti received gold with the saber team and bronze with the epee team. At the Olympic Games in Amsterdam in 1928 , he won gold with the Degen team. In 1929 Bertinetti achieved silver in the epee singles at the World Championships in Naples .
