Sergei Alexandrovich Sharikov

Sergei Alexandrowitsch Scharikow ( Russian Сергей Александрович Шариков ; born June 18, 1974 in Moscow ; † June 6, 2015 in Kaluga Oblast ) was a Russian saber fencer , two-time Olympic champion and three-time world champion.

Life

Sergei Sharikov won the saber singles junior world championships in 1994. In 1995 he won silver with the team at the World Championships . At the 1996 Olympic Games , Sharikov won gold with the team and silver in the individual behind his teammate Stanislav Posdnjakow . In 1997 he won silver with the team at the World Championships, bronze with the team at the 1998 European Championships and bronze in the individual at the 1998 World Championships, and bronze with the team at the 1999 World Championships .

2000 was his most successful year, he won the European Championships in individual and with the team. At the Olympic Games in 2000 , he won gold with the team, in the individual, he finished tenth. In 2001 he was again European team champion . With the team he won the World Championships in 2001 , 2002 and 2003 . At the European Championships in 2002 he won silver in singles, at the European Championships in 2004 he won bronze in singles. At the Olympic Games in 2004 he received bronze with the team, in the individual he took eighth place.

From December 2009 he was the Kotrainer of the Russian national team. In 2015 he was killed in a traffic accident.
