Boris Borissowitsch Melnikow ( Russian Борис Борисович Мельников ; born May 16, 1938 in Leningrad , Russian SFSR ) is a former Soviet saber fencer .
successes
Boris Melnikow achieved all of his international successes in the team competition. At world championships he was world champion with the Soviet team in Paris in 1965 and in Montreal in 1967 . At the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964 he moved into the team competition after victories over the United States in the quarter-finals and Poland in the semi-finals in the battle for gold, which was won 9: 6 against Italy . Melnikow, who made his only appearance in the preliminary round against Japan , was Olympic champion together with Umjar Mawlichanow , Nugsar Assatiani , Jakow Rylski and Mark Rakita .
