Aldo Nadi
Aldo Nadi (born April 29, 1899 in Livorno , † November 10, 1965 in Los Angeles ) was an Italian fencer .
Aldo Nadi was the younger son of the fencing master Giuseppe Nadi. His older brother Nedo Nadi became one of the most successful fencers of all time.
Aldo Nadi won three gold medals and one silver medal at the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp . He won the gold medals in team competitions with epee, foil and saber together with Nedo. He won the silver medal behind his brother in the saber singles.
Nadi took on two film roles: in the French Le tournoi dans la cité (1928) and in the Hollywood film haben und nichthaben (1944), where his character is shot by Humphrey Bogart . In other films such as The Pirate and the Lady , he was also active as a fencing coordinator and double.
Nedo Nadi and Aldo Nadi are one of the most successful pairs of brothers in the history of the Olympic Games. In fencing only Dario Mangiarotti and Edoardo Mangiarotti from Milan are on the same level. Curiously, both pairs of brothers were sons of a fencing master with the first name Giuseppe.
Trivia
During the Olympic Games in Antwerp in 1920, a dispute caused an extraordinary stir: the Italian weightlifter Filippo Bottino felt offended by Aldo Nadi and challenged the master fencer to a duel: Nadi competed with a riding whip and Bottino with a wooden club. Within a short time, however, Bottino had to drop his weapon because Nadi had hit his hand with the whip.
