Giorgio Chiavacci (* 3. July 1899 in Cecina , † 4. March 1969 ) was an Italian foil - fencers .

Career

In 1924 Chiavacci took part in the fencing competitions of the Olympic Games in Paris with the Italian team . The team finished fourth in the foil, to which Chiavacci contributed with ten wins from 13 fights. Chiavacci became first world champion in foil fencing at the International Fencing Championships in 1926 , the competitions also represented the European Championships. At the Olympic Games in Amsterdam in 1928 the Italian was in good shape and won 20 of his 22 foil fights in the team competition, making him decisive for winning the Gold medal with the team consisting of Giulio Gaudini , Gioacchino Guaragna , Giorgio Pessina , Ugo Pignotti , Oreste Puliti and Chiavacci contributed. In the final he injured his knee in a fight against the Frenchman Lucien Gaudin , so that Chiavacci could not take part in the individual competition. In 1931 he became world champion (and also European champion) with the national team. The following year, an eye infection prevented his participation in the Olympic fencing competitions in Los Angeles .

Chiavacci died in 1969 at the age of 69 in his hometown Cecina in Tuscany .
