Simone Vanni (born February 16, 1979 in Pisa ) is a former Italian foil fencer .

successes

Simone Vanni won the singles world championship in Lisbon in 2002 after beating André Weßels in the final . The following year he finished second in Havana , while this time he won the title with the team. With this he also secured in 2009 in Antalya the title and also won in 2005 in Leipzig silver and 2,006 in Turin bronze. At the European Championships in 2001 in Koblenz he won the individual title, with the team he succeeded in 2002 in Moscow , in 2005 in Zalaegerszeg and in 2009 in Plovdiv . At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , his only participation in the Olympics, he moved into the final with the team after victories against Egypt and Russia . There the Italian team defeated China with 45:42, so that Vanni became Olympic champion together with Andrea Cassarà and Salvatore Sanzo . The individual competition he completed after a quarter-final defeat against Renal Ganejew in fifth place.

His sister Elisa Vanni was also a fencer. In 2004 Vanni was appointed Commendatore of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic .
