Dmitri Stepanowitsch Shevchenko ( Russian: Дмитрий Степанович Шевченко ; born November 13, 1967 in Moscow , former Soviet Union ) is a former Soviet, later Russian , fencer and Olympic champion with the foil .

Dmitri Shevchenko is a graduate of the Russian State Academy of Physical Culture and started for the Central Army Sports Club Moscow (CSKA Moscow) . He is 1.94 m tall and weighed 96 kg when he was active. In 1987, Shevchenko made international attention for the first time when he won the Junior World Championship in foil fencing. Just two years later at the World Fencing Championships in 1989 he secured his first title among the active players when he won with the Soviet team ( Romankow , Shevchenko, Holubyzkyj , Korezki and Məmmədov ). In 1995 - starting for Russia - he won the singles and became vice world champion with the team (Shevchenko, Ibragimow , Mamedow, Pavlovich ).
