United team
United Team was the name of the joint team of the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and Georgia at the Olympic Winter Games in Albertville and the Summer Games in Barcelona in 1992 , i.e. the successor team to the team of the Soviet Union , which was dissolved by the Supreme Soviet on December 31, 1991 had been. Until the beginning of the Olympic Games in 1992, the successor states did not have enough time to organize and send their own teams. Instead of a national flag , the United Team used the Olympic flag ; in the absence of a national anthem , the Olympic anthem was played at the respective award ceremonies . The team's official French name was Equipe Unifiée . In the result lists, the team was listed under the abbreviation EUN .
The United Team was often referred to as the "CIS team", which is not entirely correct, as Georgia only joined the CIS in 1993. These teams - in 1994 a joint ice hockey team competed at international level - also started under the English acronym CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States).
The team consisted of athletes from all successor states of the Soviet Union with the exception of the Baltic states :
