Hungary (or countries of the Hungarian Crown until 1918, Kingdom of Hungary from1920 to 1946and People's Republic of Hungary from 1949 to 1989) wasrepresentedat the Summer Olympics from 1896 to 1912, 1924 to 1980 and since 1988. At Winter Olympics Hungary has been participating in the 1924th The National Olympic Committee is the Magyar Olimpiai Bizottság . In 1984 Hungary took part in the boycott of the Summer Olympics .

Hungary won the most medals at the 1952 Summer Olympics with 42 and at the 1932 , 1936 , 1948 , 1952 , 1956 and 1980 Winter Olympics with one of the most medals. At the Olympic Summer Games in 1936 and 1952 , Hungary reached third place and at the Olympic Winter Games in 1932 and 1936 the tenth place of the participating nations.

Overall, Hungary ranks eighth in terms of the number of medals in the Summer Olympics and 39th in the Winter Olympics. After Finland , Hungary won the most medals per capita.
