In 2008, Hungary took partin the Summer Olympics for the 24th time. The standard bearer at the opening ceremony was the canoeist Zoltán Kammerer . The Hungarian team competed in 20 sports, with a total of 171 athletes taking part. The Hungarian medal record was the worst since 1928; Furthermore, since 1924, Hungarian athletes have never won so few gold medals.
