Gábor Balogh (born August 5, 1976 in Budapest ) is a former Hungarian pentathlete .

Career

Balogh celebrated great success at world championships . In 1998 he won his first medal with silver in the team competition, before he succeeded in becoming world champion in the individual as well as in the team and relay competition the following year . He failed to defend his title when he only finished second in the individual in 2000 . In 2001 he won his second title in singles and was victorious again with the team. In 2002 and 2003 he defended the team title, with the relay he also secured the title in 2003. He won his last medal in 2007 with team silver . In Balogh's career record there are eight world championship titles and three second places.

At the Olympic Games Balogh competed three times. His first participation in 2000 in Sydney was crowned with success, he won in the individual competition silver. 2004 in Athens , he completed the race from 8th place, while in 2008 in Beijing do not have a 24th place hinauskam. After the 2008 Games, he ended his career.

In 1999 and 2001 he was voted Hungarian Sportsman of the Year .
