Anett Mészáros

Anett Mészáros (born July 14, 1987 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian judoka . She won two silver and two bronze medals at world championships.

Career

Anett Mészáros was third in the U17 European Championships in the weight class up to 63 kilograms in 2002 . At the Junior World Championships in the same year she finished fifth, but now in the weight class up to 70 kilograms. In this weight class, she won the Hungarian championship title from 2002 to 2004 and 2007. In 2003 she won the U17 European Championships and finished second at the U20 European Championships. In 2004 Anett Mészáros was both U20 European and U20 world champion. She won her first international medal in the adult age group at the 2005 European Championships in Rotterdam. In the semi-finals she was defeated by Edith Bosch from the Netherlands and won the battle for bronze against Silvia Schlagnitweit from Austria. Half a year later she also won bronze at the U23 European Championships. In 2006 Anett Mészáros won the U20 European Championships, at the U20 World Championships she lost to the Japanese Tomoe Ueno in the final . She won another silver medal at the U23 European Championships when she only lost in the final against the Portuguese Ana Cachola . At the 2007 World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, the Hungarian lost to the French Gévrise Émane in the quarter-finals , and Mészáros won a bronze medal with three wins in the round of hope. The following year she reached the semi-finals at the European Championships in Lisbon. After defeats against the Spaniard Leire Iglesias and the German Kerstin Thiele , she finished fifth. At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, Anett Mészáros lost to the Japanese Masae Ueno in the quarter-finals and ultimately took seventh place. At the end of 2008 she won a bronze medal at the U23 European Championships.

At the European Championships in Tbilisi in 2009, Mészáros lost to the Spaniard Cecilia Blanco in the quarter-finals and ended up in fifth place. Four months later she reached the final at the 2009 World Championships in Rotterdam by beating the Japanese Mina Watanabe in the semi- finals, where she was defeated by Yuri Alvear from Colombia. In 2010 she won the European Championships in Vienna in the semi-finals against the French Mylène Chollet and in the final against the Slovenian Raša Sraka . As the reigning European champion, she reached the final of the 2010 World Championships in Tokyo with victories over Cecila Blanco and Edith Bosch, but was defeated there by the French Lucie Décosse . In 2011 she finished fifth at the European Championships in Istanbul after losing to Edith Bosch and Lucie Décosse. She also lost to Lucie Décosse at the 2011 World Championships in Paris, but this time in the semifinals. With a victory over Raša Sraka, Anett Mészáros won bronze, her fourth medal at world championships. At the Olympic Games in London in 2012 she lost her first fight to the German Kerstin Thiele.

Anett Mészáros was only active in 2015 in the following years. After the birth of her son, she returned to international tournaments in 2018, now in the weight class up to 78 kilograms.
