Celonis is a German software company with headquarters in Munich and New York . The company develops software that enables so-called process mining to be carried out. Business processes are digitally mapped and analyzed for hidden process knowledge. Process mining can be used in various corporate areas such as procurement, accounts payable, sales or production.

Celonis was founded in 2011 by three fellow students Bastian Nominacher, Martin Klenk and Alexander Rinke in Forstern . Before that, the three had jointly analyzed the broadcasting company's internal service processes as part of several consulting projects at Munich's largest student management consultancy ("Academy Consult") for Bavarian Broadcasting . Your work for the BR resulted in recommendations to well-known private companies such as Siemens . In 2014 the company relocated its headquarters to Munich. In the following year, Celonis took first place in the Technology Fast 50 Award , which is presented by the Deloitte accounting group . Although Celonis has been making profits since it was founded and, according to its own statements, was not dependent on outside investors, the company received a total of around 80 million US dollars in the course of investment rounds in 2016 and 2018. In a third round of financing in 2019, the company was able to raise a further 290 million US dollars. Investors include venture capitalist Accel Partners , who ascribed Celonis a valuation of 2.5 billion US dollars. This makes the company one of the few so-called unicorns in Germany. An IPO of Celonis, which had been targeted for 2020 since 2016, was finally rejected. This is initially not necessary to secure liquidity.

Celonis has registered several software patents, including for the Celonis Process Query Language (PQL), which it developed in-house, which allows complex process queries to be carried out on large amounts of data. In addition to an enterprise version of the software, free access to the Intelligent Business Cloud platform is also offered. Students, lecturers and scientists also receive free learning materials for research and teaching via the Academic Alliance program.

Celonis customers include Siemens, Bayer , UBS , Vodafone , Innogy and Lanxess .

In 2019, Celonis won the German Future Prize, endowed with 250,000 euros, for its process mining software, which detects deviations from targets before they occur.
