Péter Bácsi (born May 15, 1983 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian wrestler . In 2008 and 2014 he became European champion in the Greco-Roman style in welterweight and in the weight class up to 80 kg body weight, in which he also became world champion in 2014 . In 2018 he became world champion in the weight class up to 82 kg body weight
Career
Péter Bácsi started wrestling as a teenager in 1991. He concentrated on the Greco-Roman style. He is a member of the Ferencváros TC Budapest sports club and is trained by former Olympic champion András Sike . He is a student, but makes a living e.g. Currently with the wrestling. He is also very well known in German wrestling circles because he has competed in the German wrestling league for several years, namely SV Wacker Burghausen and RWG Mömbris-Königshofen .
He played his first major international tournament in 2001 in Tashkent. He came here at the Junior World Championships in lightweight on the 12th place. At the European Junior Championships in 2002 in Subotica, he finished 9th. In 2005 he started for the first time with the seniors at the University World Championships. Bácsi finished the tournament fifth. In 2007 Péter Bácsi was first Hungarian champion in welterweight. At the 2007 World Championships in Baku he won 7th place in the welterweight division. He first defeated Sixto Barrera Ochoa from Peru, Daulet Kadirow from Turkmenistan and Tsukasa Tsurumaki from Japan and then failed 5-8 to Julian Kwit from Poland.
At the European Championship 2008 in Tampere, Finland, he surprised the entire international wrestling world, because he won the European title for the first time with victories over Edgar Babajan from Armenia , Valtteri Moisio from Finland, Christophe Guénot from France and in the final against Seref Tüfenk from Turkey with the seniors. With this victory he also qualified for the Olympic Games in Beijing that year. In Beijing he started very strong and defeated Thomas Curtius Dantzler from the United States, Arsen Dschulfalakjan from Armenia and the Olympic champion of 2000 Warteres Samurgaschew from Russia. In the semifinals he lost to Manuchar K Wirkwelia from Georgia and was defeated in the battle for a bronze medal against Christophe Guénot, this defeat with 1: 2 rounds and 7: 7 points was extremely narrow.
In 2009 he was less successful. He came in 12th place at the European Championships in Vilnius after a defeat in his second fight against Elwin Mursalijew from Azerbaijan and took 12th place at the World Championships in Herning / Denmark after a victory over Kanatbek Begalijew from Kyrgyzstan and a defeat against Farshad Alizadeh Kalecheschi from the Iran only ranked 19th.
In 2010 and 2011, however, Péter Bácsi won again medals at the European Championships in Baku and Dortmund in the welterweight division. In Baku he defeated u. a. the strong Turkish Seref Tüfenk, but lost again in the semifinals to Elwin Mursaliejew and finally secured a bronze medal with a victory over Tomas Sobecky from the Czech Republic. In Dortmund he became vice-European champion after beating Roman Vlasov from Russia in the semi-finals and losing in the final against Rafiq Hüseynov from Azerbaijan. At the world championships of those years he was less successful. In Moaskau 2010 he was defeated in his first fight against Roman Meljoschin from Kazakhstan and landed on the 20th place and in Istanbul 2011 he lost after winning three fights against Asqat Dilmuchamedow from Kazakhstan and reached the 8th place.
In 2012, Péter Bácsi managed to qualify again for the Olympic Games at a tournament in Taiyuan / China with a 3rd place behind Emin Akhmadov , Azerbaijan and Aljaksandr Kikinjou , Belarus. In London he lost his first welterweight fight against Aleksandr Kazakevič from Lithuania. Since this did not reach the final, he was eliminated and only came in 14th place.
To avoid the heavy wear and tear that the constant training brought with it, he switched to the middleweight division in 2013 . He was used in this weight class by the Hungarian Wrestling Association in March 2013 at the European Championships in Tbilisi. There he only managed to win against Michael Wagner from Austria and lost in his second fight against Artur Schahinjan from Armenia. He came in 10th place. At the 2013 World Cup in Budapest, not he, but Viktor Lőrincz was used for Hungary.
For Péter Bácsi, the realignment of the weight classes by the world wrestling federation FILA on January 1st, 2014 turned out to be a stroke of luck, because his physical prerequisites seem to be predestined for the new weight class up to 80 kg body weight. He proved this at this year's European Championships in Vantaa / Finland, because he won there for the second time in this weight class with victories over Peter Balo, Serbia, Artur Omarow, Czech Republic, Zakarias Berg, Sweden, Giorgi Zirekidse , Georgia and Selçuk Çebi , Turkey the European championship title in his career. The greatest success of his career to date was the 2014 World Cup in Tashkent. He was there in the weight class up to 80 kg body weight with victories over Firdows Rofiew, Tajikistan, Jim Eric Pettersson, Sweden, Aleksandr Kazakevič , Lithuania, Tadeusz Michalik, Poland and Yevgeni Salejew , Russia, world champion.
Since the weight class up to 80 kg is not Olympic, Peter Bácsi trained more and more in the weight class up to 75 kg, which is Olympic, in 2015. Without a doubt, his goal is to compete in this weight class at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. It remains to be seen whether this will succeed. In 2015 he competed in the weight class up to 75 kg at the World Championships in Las Vegas. He came there but after victories over Carlos Andres Munoz Jaramillo from Colombia and Valeri Palensky from Belarus and defeats against Roman Vlasov from Russia and Arsen Dschulfalakjan from Armenia only on the 8th place.
In 2016, Peter Bácsi qualified for a start at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro by winning the Olympic qualification tournament in Ulaan-Baatar.
