Saeid Mourad Abdvali (born November 4, 1989 in Andimeschk , Khuzestan Province ) is an Iranian wrestler . In 2011 he became world champion in the Greco-Roman style in the lightweight and won a bronze medal in the same style in the welterweight at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro

Career

Saeid Mourad Abdvali started wrestling as a teenager in 2000. He focuses on the Greco-Roman style. He is a member of the Shahada wrestling club . His trainer is Mersa Ghalavand. He is a student and, with a height of 1.70 meters, wrestles in the important lightweight competitions, the weight class up to 66 kg body weight.

He appeared on the international wrestling mat for the first time in 2008. He was first Asian junior champion in Doha and a little later in Istanbul also junior world champion, both times in the lightweight. In Istanbul he left such good wrestlers as Aleksandar Maksimović , Serbia , Rafiq Hüseynov , Azerbaijan and Migran Arutjunjan , Russia , behind.

In 2009 he was again Junior World Champion, relegating Migran Arutjunjan and Frank Stäbler from Germany to the places. This year he also started for the first time in the senior class at an international championship. He finished 3rd at the Asian Championships in Pattaya behind Darchan Bajachmetow , Kazakhstan and Hyuk Eaom, South Korea . 2010 Saeid Mourad Abdvali was used by the Iranian Wrestling Federation at the World Championships in Moscow . There he defeated the Portuguese Hugo Passos da Silva in his first fight, but already lost in his second fight against the Hungarian Tamás Lőrincz , eliminated and ended up in 14th place. A consolation for him was the victory at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou , where he won ahead of Darchan Bajachmetow, Tsumoto Fujimura from Japan and Sunil Kumar Rana from India .

In February 2011 he won the World Cup in Minsk in front of the strong South Korean Kim Hyeon-woo and Mikhail Semenov from Belarus . At the 2011 World Championships in Istanbul , Saeid Mourad Abdvali then celebrated his first major success with the seniors. He became world champion with victories over Mateusz Wanke, Poland , Frank Stäbler, Darchan Bajachmetow, Kim Hyeon-woo and Manuchar Taschadaia from Georgia .

In 2012, in preparation for the Olympic Games in London, he won a tournament in Qom in front of Aschat Dilmuchamedow from Kazakhstan and his compatriot Mehdi Mohammadi and in the World Cup in Saransk in front of Migran Arutjunjan, Jung Ji-hyun , South Korea and Yerbol Koniratow from Kazakhstan . At the Olympic Games he won the lightweight in his first fight against Atakan Yüksel from Turkey , but lost in his second fight against the experienced French Olympic champion from 2008 Steeve Guénot . Since this did not reach the final, he was eliminated and ended up in 11th place, which was disappointing for him.

In 2013 he did his military service and started at the Military World Championship in Tehran, where he won the welterweight title. In 2014 Saied Abdvali won bronze medals at both the Asian Championships in Almaty and the Asian Games in Incheon in the welterweight division. He did not start at the World Championships in 2013 and 2014.

He was back at the 2015 World Championships in Las Vegas and started in the new weight class up to 75 kg. He came there first to victories over Nurbek Charischbekow, Uzbekistan, Pascal Eisele , Germany and Surabi Datunashvili , Georgia, but then lost to Mark Overgaard Madsen from Denmark and Andrew Bisek from the United States and came in 5th place.

This space was sufficient to qualify them for participation in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. In Rio, Saeid Mourad Abdvali met his feared opponent Mark Overgaard Madsen in the first round and lost again promptly. Since Madsen reached the final, Saied Mourad Abdvali was able to wrestle further in the consolation round and still secure a bronze medal with victories over Viktor Nemeš , Serbia and Peter Bacsi , Hungary.

In 2017 he was back at the World Championships, which took place in Paris, in the weight class up to 75 kg. He lost his first fight against Viktor Nemeš in Paris again, but was able to continue in the consolation round and secure a bronze medal with victories over Maksat Jereschepow, Kazakhstan, Karapet Chaljan, Armenia and Kazbek Kilow, Belarus.

At the 2018 World Championships in Budapest, Saeid Mourad Abdvali started in the weight class up to 82 kg for the first time. He won there over Edgar Babajan, Poland, Lasha Gobadze, Georgia and Rafik Huseinow, Azerbaijan, lost in the semifinals to Emrah Kus from Turkey and also lost the battle for a bronze medal against the defending champion of 2017 Maksim Manukjan from Armenia. He came in 5th place.

In addition to the starts at the individual championships, Saeid Mourad Abdvali has regularly started very successfully in the Iranian national team at the team world cups and the club world championships in recent years.

In 2019 he became Asian champion in the weight class up to 82 kg in Xi'an, China. On the way to this success he defeated Maxat Jereschepow, Kazakhstan, Jalgasbay Berdimuratow, Uzbekistan and Harpreet Singh, India.

Explanations

  • all competitions in Greco-Roman style
  • OS = Olympic Games, WM = World Championship
  • Lightweight, weight class up to 66 kg, welter weight, up to 74 kg body weight (until 2014); After 2014, the international wrestling federation (UWW) carried out several weight class reforms in quick succession, in which new weight classes were added. Naming the weight classes by name, as has been customary since wrestling began, is therefore no longer possible
