Viktor Nemeš, 2017

Viktor Nemeš (born July 21, 1993 in Senta , Federal Republic of Yugoslavia ) is a Serbian wrestler . In 2017 he became world champion in the Greco-Roman style in the weight class up to 75 kg body weight.

Career

Viktor Nemeš, of Magyar descent, started wrestling at the age of 5 in 1998. After the Second World War, the Serbian province of Vojvodina developed into a stronghold of wrestling in what was then Yugoslavia, and it still is in Serbia today. He belongs to the sports club RK Proleter Zrenjanin and has been or is trained by Laszlo Zorgo, Miklos Molnar and Stojan Dobrew. His brother Mate is also a wrestler. The 1.73 meter tall athlete weighs around 80 kg and fully concentrates on the Greco-Roman style.

Viktor Nemeš made his first start at an international championship in July 2009, taking 7th place in the European Junior Championship (age group Cadets) in Zrenjanin in the weight class up to 54 kg body weight. Since then, he has competed in a total of 19 World or European Championships and the 2016 Olympic Games in the various age groups until the end of 2018.

In the first years of his international wrestling career, his successes were limited. By the end of 2014, the best placement he achieved was a 5th place at the Junior World Championships 2013 in Sofia in the weight class up to 74 kg body weight.

Viktor Nemeš made the big leap forward in 2015. In March 2015 he won the FILA-Grand Pix in Szombathely in the weight class up to 75 kg and in the same month he became European champion in the U 23 age group in Walbrzych. In June 2015 he reached the European Championship, which was held as part of the 1st European Games in Baku, the final in which he lost to Elwin Mursalijew from Azerbaijan. He suffered a setback in terms of the final result at the 2015 World Cup in Las Vegas, because he lost there in the 2nd round against Kim Hyeon-woo from South Korea just on points, was eliminated and only finished 21st place. When Kim Hyeon-woo of course, it was none other than the Olympic champion in 2012 in the welterweight division.

In 2016 Viktor Nemeš took 2nd place in the weight class up to 75 kg at the European Championships in Riga. He defeated u. a. the strong Croatian Neven Zugaj . In the final he lost to Surabi Datunashvili from Georgia. In April 2016 Viktor Nemes qualified in Zrenjanin at an Olympic qualification tournament with a 1st place ahead of Surabi Datunashvili for participation in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. In Rio he then first won over Dilschod Turdijew from Uzbekistan, but then lost to the experienced Mark Overgaard Madsen from Denmark. Since this reached the final, Viktor Nemes was able to continue in the consolation round, but lost there against Saeid Mourad Abdvali from Iran and took a good 8th place in the final bill.

In May 2017 Viktor Nemeš lost at the European Championships in Novi Sad in the weight class up to 75 kg in the qualification against Karapat Chaljan from Armenia and only came in 13th place. The world championships of the same year in Paris became the highlight of his career so far. He won there over Saeid Mourad Abdvali, Maksat Jereschepow, Kazakhstan, Karapet Chaljan, Kazbek Kilow, Belarus and Alexander Czechirkin from Russia and became world champion.

He was also very successful in 2018, although he could not win a title at the international championships that year. At the European Championships in Kaspiisk in April 2018, he reached the final and defeated on the way to u. a. Tamas Lörincz from Hungary. In the final, he lost to Roman Vlasov , the former Olympic champion from Russia. At the 2018 World Championships in Budapest, he initially won two wins in the new weight class up to 77 kg, but then lost to Alexander Chechirkin. Since this reached the final, Viktor Nemeš was able to wrestle further in the consolation round and secure a bronze medal with victories over Kairabet Togulbajew, Kyrgyzstan, Elwin Mursalijew and Alex Michel Bjurrberg Kessidis from Sweden.
