Adam Mikhailovich Kurak ( Russian Адам Михайлович Курак ; born June 27, 1985 in Yeniseisk ) is a Russian wrestler . In 2013 he became vice European champion and in 2014 and 2018 European champion in the Greco-Roman style in the lightweight or in the weight class up to 71 kg body weight.

Career

Adam Kurak started wrestling as a teenager in 1995. He focuses on the Greco-Roman style. He is a member of the Akademy Mindiaschwili Krasnoyarsk wrestling club . His trainer is Sergei Sidnikow. Wrestling is z. Currently also his job.

In a sense, he is a late starter, because he did not achieve his first notable successes until 2009, when he was already 24 years old. That year he became the Russian lightweight champion. In the following years 2010 to 2012 he could not win this championship title again, but won a medal every year.

Adam Kurak did not appear at international championships until 2013. However, he was present at many high-ranking international tournaments and often took excellent places. In January 2013 he won the most important Russian wrestling tournament, the "Iwan-Poddubny" Memorial in Tyumen, ahead of Islambek Albijew, Samir Sagaschtokow and Yuri Denissow, all of Russia and was then nominated for the 2013 European Championship in Tbilisi. In Tbilisi he defeated Benedikt Puffer, Austria, Artak Margarjan, France and Atakan Yüksel, Turkey. In the final he then faced Tamás Lőrincz , who won the Olympic championship in 2012, against whom he lost on points. He became vice European champion.

At the Russian championship in 2013, which took place after the European championship, Adam Kurak could not place in the front field. It was therefore not used at the 2013 World Cup. At the most important Russian preparatory tournament for the 2014 season, he defeated the 2013 Russian champion Islambek Albijew in Tyumen in January 2014 and became the tournament winner. In April 2014 he won the European title for the first time in Vantaa / Finland with victories over Rewas Laschchi , Georgia, Benedikt Puffer, Austria, Denis Demjanenko, Ukraine, Istvan Levai , Slovakia and Hassan Alijew , Azerbaijan. In May 2014 he also competed in the World Cup in Tehran, a team competition won by Iran. There he won over Basan Enes, Turkey, Krisztian Jäger, Hungary and the 2012 Olympic champion Omid Haji Noroozi , Iran. At the World Championships in Tashkent in September 2014, Adam Kurak only managed one victory over Ismael Navarro, Spain. In his second fight he lost to Tamás Lőrincz from Hungary. Since this did not reach the final, he was eliminated and only finished in 13th place.

At the 2015 World Championships in Las Vegas, Adam Kurak was used in the weight class up to 71 kg body weight. He initially defeated Zhang Ridong, China, but then lost to Rasul Chunayev from Azerbaijan. Since he reached the final, Adam Kurak was able to continue in the consolation round and he secured a bronze medal with victories over Franck Hassli, Monaco, Justin Harry Lester from the United States and Timur Berdijew from Belarus.

In 2016 Adam Kurak took 3rd place in the Russian lightweight championship behind Islambek Albijew and Artem Surkow. He therefore got no chance to qualify for the Olympic Games this year in Rio de Janeiro. In September 2016 he started in Skopje at the military world championship and finished there in the weight class up to 71 kg body weight behind Hassan Aliyev from Azerbaijan. In December 2016 he was also used at the World Championships in the non-Olympic weight classes in Budapest. He finished 5th in the same weight class in Budapest. Bálint Korpási from Hungary became world champion.

In 2017 Adam Kurak was the Russian champion in the weight class up to 71 kg, ahead of Abujasid Manzigow . In August 2018 it was used at the World Cup in Paris. He came to three wins in Paris, but lost to Demeu Schadrajew from Kazakhstan and in the battle for a bronze medal against Bálint Korpási. In September 2017 he was again military world champion in Klaipeda in front of Armen Hakobjan from Armenia.

In May 2018 Adam Kurak became European champion for the second time in his career in Kaspiisk. He won the title in the weight class up to 71 kg with victories over Bálint Korpási, Jan Zizka from the Czech Republic, Gevorg Sahakjan, Poland and Rasul Chunayew.

Explanations
  • all competitions in Greco-Roman style
  • WM = World Championship, EM = European Championship
  • Lightweight, weight class up to 66 kg body weight (until December 31, 2013; from January 1, 2014, a new weight class classification by the FILA applies); this was changed again on January 1, 2018, so there is no longer any naming, but only the specification of the weight limit
