from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Islambek Said-Zilimowitsch Albijew ( Russian Исламбек Саид-Цилимович Альбиев , first name also Islam-Bek ; born December 28, 1988 in Grozny ) is a Russian wrestler . He was Olympic champion in 2008 in Beijing in the Greco-Roman style featherweight.

Career

Islambek Albiev, of Chechen origin, started wrestling in Moscow in 2000 . He is a member of Spartak Moscow and is trained by Umalt Tolbulatow. He is 1.63 m tall and typically weighs between 63 and 65 kg. He wrestles exclusively in the Greco-Roman style.

He began his career on the international wrestling mat at the 2005 European Junior Championship (Cadets) in Tirana , where he took first place in the weight class up to 58 kg body weight, ahead of Vladimir Zaporojan from Moldova and Ibrahim Erdschan from Bulgaria .

At the Junior World Championships in Guatemala City in 2006 , he reached 3rd place in featherweight behind Bekschan Scharbolow from Kazakhstan and Chosrow Melikjan from Armenia .

2007 reached Islambek Albijew at a World Cup tournament in Antalya , which was held in the form of a team tournament, in the individual ranking in featherweight the 3rd place. He defeated u. a. the Americans Joseph Warren and Saber Seyed Mirzahi Darzi from Iran . He suffered a defeat from Emik Bunjamin from Turkey . At the European Championships in Sofia this year , Islambek Albijew had to pay hardship because he lost his first fight against Fuad Aliev from Azerbaijan on points. Since Aliev did not reach the final, Albiev was eliminated and only reached the 16th place. Nevertheless, he was used at the 2007 World Cup in Baku . Although he achieved three wins there, he missed the semi-finals by losing to Nurbakyt Tengizbajew from Kazakhstan . This left him in 8th place.

In 2008 Islambek Albiyev became Russian featherweight champion. Despite the unsatisfactory performance at the World and European Championships in 2007, the Russian Federation relied on him and used him at the Olympic Games in Beijing . There he justified this trust, because he became Olympic featherweight champion with victories over Soner Sucu from Turkey , Ruslan Tjumengajew from Kyrgyzstan , Roberto Monzón from Cuba and Vitali Rəhimov from Azerbaijan .

He won the next international championship title in April 2009 at the European Championships in Vilnius . There he defeated the Armenian Edward Barsegjan, naturalized in Poland, in the final of the featherweight division and became the new European champion . In the same year he became world champion in Herning / Denmark with five wins. He gave it only in the semifinals against Nurbakyt Tengisbajew from Kazakhstan from a two-point ranking and defeated Dilschod Aripow from Uzbekistan in the final .

From 2010 Islambek Albijew moved to the next higher weight class, the lightweight . In this weight class he was also the same Russian champion ahead of Adam Kurak, Arunat Kutschinow and Yuri Denisov, but he was not nominated for any international championships in 2010 and 2011. In January 2012 he won the important "Ivan Poddubny" memorial in Tyumen and thus announced his ambitions for the Olympic Games in London to the Russian Wrestling Federation . At the European Wrestling Championships 2012 | European Championships 2012 in Belgrade, he took 3rd place behind Frank Stäbler from Germany and Georgian Carpen from Romania. In May 2012 he tried to qualify for the Olympic Games in London at a tournament in Helsinki . But he only finished 5th there, which is not enough for qualification. That is why there was no Russian wrestler at the lightweight at the Olympic Games in London.

2013 Islambek Albijew was the Russian lightweight champion ahead of Yuri Denisov. He was then used by the Russian Wrestling Federation at the World Championships that year in Budapest. He was well prepared there and won over Pedro Isaac Mulens Herrera, Cuba, Sasun Ghambarjan, Armenia, Frank Stäbler , Germany and Həsən Əliyev from Azerbaijan. He was in the final against the South Korean Ryu Han-su . First, each wrestler won a round. In the third round, Islambek Albijew led just on points and the referee sent the South Korean to the bench. Islambek Albijew thus had the great chance to achieve another point scoring and thus finally decide the fight in his favor. However, he criticized Ryu han-su's position on the bench several times and did not take up the fight after a further request from the referee. He was then disqualified and declared the loser of the fight. Ryu Han-su became world champion and for Islambek Albijew only the 2nd place remained instead of the world champion title, which was already believed to be safe.

In January 2014, Islambek Albijew came in second place behind Adam Kurak in the important “Iwan Poddubny” memorial in Tyumen in the weight class up to 66 kg.
