Jarkko Tapani Ala-Huikku (born January 31, 1980 in Seinäjoki ) is a former Finnish wrestler . In 2008 he became European champion in the Greco-Roman style in the category up to 60 kg.

career

Ala-Huikku's hometown club was Ilmajoen Kisailijat , where he was trained by Marko Yli-Hannuksela's father , Seppo Yli-Hannuksela. Since 2002 he has been wrestling with the Bavarian Bundesliga club SV Siegfried Hallbergmoos-Goldach . There he had two compatriots in the team: Jani Haapamäki and Kim-Jussi Nurmela .

His greatest success as a junior was third place at the 2000 World Cup in Nantes . In the same year he also started with the seniors for the first time. In 2007 he was the third European champion, the following year he celebrated the most important success of his career after winning the final at the 2008 European Championships in Tampere over Armen Nasarijan .

At the Olympic Games in the same year, Ala-Huikku failed in his first fight against later bronze medalist Ruslan Tümönbajew from Kyrgyzstan and only came 18th out of 20 participants. The 2012 Olympic Games in London were his last major international tournament. Ala-Huikku could not prevail here as well as in the previous World Championships and was eliminated after a defeat against the French Tarik Belmadani , who later came ninth.

Ala-Huikku is 1.62 meters tall. In January 2013 he declared his career over.

In 2000 and 2002 he started at the World University Championships. He finished fourth and third.
