Marko "Myhi" Juhani Yli-Hannuksela (born December 21, 1973 in Ilmajoki , southern Ostrobothnia ) is a former Finnish wrestler in the Greco-Roman style in the class up to 74 kg. He is 1.70 m tall.

Career

Yli-Hannuksela started wrestling with the Finnish club Ilmajoen Kisailijat , where he was trained by his father Seppo Yli-Hanneksela. Later he also wrestled in the Bundesliga for AV Germania Markneukirchen and KSV Aalen . In 2004 he was voted Finland's Sportsman of the Year by Finnish journalists .

At the World Wrestling Championships in 1997 , Yli-Hannuksela was somewhat surprisingly world champion as 15th of the Olympic Games last year. At the Olympic Games in 2000 and 2004, he won a bronze and a silver medal in the welterweight division. In the run-up to the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, Yli-Hannuksela suffered from an injury and was unable to take part in the 2008 European Championships in Tampere . After his recovery, he just missed a fourth Olympic participation in two Olympic qualifying tournaments. As a result, Yli-Hannuksela ended his career in 2008.

Marko Yli-Hannuksela has five children with his wife Gita and works as a carpenter .
