Yvon Riemer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yvon Riemer (born October 5, 1970 in Strasbourg ) is a former French wrestler . He was world champion in 1995 in the Greco-Roman style welterweight .

Career

Yvon Riemer grew up in Strasbourg in a wrestling family. In 1980 he started wrestling at the wrestling club Olympia Schiltigheim under the guidance of his father Jean-Pierre Riemer, who remained his coach throughout his career . He mainly focused on the Greco-Roman style. Even in the junior division he was one of the best French wrestlers in the respective age groups and was able to achieve great successes among the juniors at the international championships.

In 1986 he became Junior European Champion with the Cadets (= up to the age of 16) in Bursa in both styles in lightweight. In 1987 he won in Katowice this item also in the Juniors (= up to 18 years) in the Greco-Roman welterweight and 1989 he was in Budapest even junior world champion in the Espoirs (= 20 years of age) in Greek roman style welterweight.

In the senior category , Yvon Riemer made his debut in 1991 at the Mediterranean Games in Athens with a Greco-Roman style welterweight victory. At the European Championships this year in Aschaffenburg he fought his way to fifth place and won the bronze medal in the welterweight division with excellent performances at the 1991 World Championships in Varna . The winner of this championship was Mnazakan Iskandarjan from the Soviet Union , who was the main competitor of Yvon Riemer in many subsequent international championships.

Yvon Riemer also won the bronze medal in the welterweight division at the European Championships in Copenhagen in 1992 . In the fight for this 3rd place he defeated Erhan Balci from Turkey . At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona he did not win a medal and had to be satisfied with 5th place.

In 1993, Yvon Riemer was only able to start at the World Championships in Stockholm due to an injury . He was in good shape there and won a bronze medal again by beating Torbjörn Kornbakk from Sweden . In one of the preliminary fights he had also defeated the German champion Erik Hahn from Luckenwalde with 3: 1 points.

After Yvon Riemer suffered major training failures due to injury in 1994 and therefore performed poorly at the international championships, he celebrated a big comeback at the 1995 World Championships in Prague . He was there in a superior style in front of Bakhtiar Baiseitow from Kazakhstan , Filiberto Azcuy from Cuba and Mnazakan Iskandarjan world champion . 1996 did not go well for him; he won no medal at the European Championships in Budapest and had to give up participation in the Olympic Games in Atlanta due to injury. But he managed to win a medal again in 1997 at the European Championships in Kouvola, Finland . He was the third winner there behind Torbjörn Kornbakk and Marko Asell from Finland . At the 1997 World Cup in Wrocław , he narrowly missed a medal with fourth place. In the fight for this medal he was defeated by the strong Cuban Filiberto Azcuy Aguilera .

Yvon Riemer celebrated his last major successes at the 1999 World Cup in Athens. He fought his way through to the final and was defeated by the Turkish Nazmi Avluca after 2 minutes and 41 seconds with 0:11 points. But winning the World Cup silver medal was well deserved.

At the World Championships in Gävle in 1998 and in Patras in 2001 , Yvon Riemer had very bad experiences with the regulations that have since changed. He lost the first fight there (1988 against Stojan Dobrew from Bulgaria and 2001 against Nazmi Avluca), dropped out early and finished 27th and 23rd, which are indisputable for his true ability.

Yvon Riemer, who works as an administrator, is married to Sophie Pluquet . Both have a son. Sophie Pluquet was also a wrestler and was, duplicity of events, like Yvon in 1995 world champion in women in the class up to 53 kg body weight.
