Fellagha

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term fellagha ( Arabic فلاقة Fellāqa  'robber', plural Fellāq  /فلاق) denotes the Arab fighters against French rule in Algeria and Tunisia in the 1950s.

The word migrated from Arabic as Fellouze into French. During the struggle for independence, it experienced a positive change in meaning in Tunisia and Algeria and, as it were, describes the freedom fighters of this time as an honorary title.
