Ara Abrahamian
Ara Abrahamian ( Armenian Արա Աբրահամյան ; born July 27, 1975 in Leninakan ) is a Swedish wrestler of Armenian origin, two-time world champion and silver medalist at the 2004 Olympic Games . Abrahamian wrestles in the Greco-Roman style. The businessman from Stockholm is wrestling at Sparvägen Stockholm .
Ara Abrahamian began wrestling in 1985. In 1994 he took part in the European Championships of Espoirs, where he finished seventh. At the 1999 World Cup, he started for Sweden for the first time and finished seventh.
At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, he caused a scandal. Dissatisfied with a jury decision in the semifinals, which he perceived as partial, he placed his medal in the middle of the ring after the bronze medal was handed over during the ongoing ceremony and left the hall. He then said “I think my loss in the semi-finals was totally unfair. The disputed rules show that the FILA does not act fairly. ”And“ I am not interested in this medal, I wanted gold ”and declared his retirement from active sport. As a result, the bronze medal was officially withdrawn from him by the IOC for his violation of the fair play rule and not reassigned.
