Zoltán Fodor (born July 29, 1985 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian wrestler . He won at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing a silver medal in Greco-Roman wrestling in the middleweight division.

Career

Zoltán Fodor grew up in Budapest and started wrestling there in 1994 at the age of nine. The club he starts for is Ferencvaros Torma Club (FTC) Budapest . His first coach was Jószef Széles. Since joining the Hungarian national team, he has been looked after by the former Olympic champion András Sike . Fodor is 1.82 m tall and weighs between 86 kg and 88 kg and starts exclusively in the Greco-Roman style. For the competitions he trains in the middle weight (up to 84 kg body weight). He is z. Currently practically a professional wrestler and started in the 2007/08 season in the 2nd German Bundesliga for AC Auerbach . From autumn 2008 he will start for SV Germania Weingarten in the 1st German Bundesliga. Maybe there will be a revenge with Andrea Minguzzi , his Italian conqueror in the fight for the Olympic gold medal in Beijing, because he is wrestling in the 1st German Bundesliga for TSV Dewangen .

Fodor's international career began in the younger junior class (cadets). In 2001 he took 5th place at the European Junior Championships in Izmir in lightweight. In 2002 he became European welterweight champion in the same junior category in Odessa . In the older junior class (Juniors) he started in 2003 at the World Welterweight Championship in Istanbul . But there he lost his first fight against Ilgar Abdulov ( Azerbaijan ). A victory in the next fight over Tsukasa Tsurumaki ( Japan ) was of little use to him, because he was eliminated and only finished 19th.

In 2004 he came at the Junior European Championships (Juniors) in Murska Sobota ( Slovenia ) in middleweight on the 4th place. He lost his semi-final fight against Jure Kohar from Slovenia on points. The last time he started in 2005 was a junior championship. In Vilnius he lost his first fight against Vladimir Gegeschidze from Georgia . Since this did not reach the final, he was eliminated and only came in 30th place in the final bill.

In 2006, Fodor finished 2nd at the Hungarian Middleweight Championship behind Sándor Bárdosi , the Olympic champion from 2000 in Sydney . This year he was used at a world cup tournament in Budapest , but did not get there against the more experienced competitors and only finished 8th.

In 2007 he replaced Sándor Bárdosi as the Hungarian middleweight champion and also placed himself at the Hungarian Grand Prix, in which he finished 2nd behind the French Melonin Noumonvi , before this. He was then used at the European Championships in Sofia that year . There he won his first fight against Petru Shaporojan from Moldova , but retired with a defeat in his next fight against Kim-Jussi Nurmela from Finland and finished in 16th place. At the 2007 World Cup in Baku he won three wins over Laimutis Adomaitis from Lithuania , Attila Bátky from Slovakia and Dennis Forow from Armenia . He missed the semi-finals with a defeat against former world champion Ara Abrahamian from Sweden . However, he finished 8th and qualified directly for participation in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing .

In Beijing, Zoltán Fodor started as an outsider. However, he had prepared himself excellently for the Olympic Games as part of the Hungarian national team and was rewarded with the silver medal in the middleweight division. On the way to this medal he defeated Ma Sanyi from China , Schalwa Gabaradze from Azerbaijan and the ex-world champion Nazmi Avluca from Turkey . In the final, he lost to another outsider, Andrea Minguzzi from Italy . In the first two rounds, neither of the wrestlers could gain an advantage. One round went to Fodor and one to Minguzzi. In the decisive third round, Minguzzi managed to score two points, with which he defeated Zoltán Fodor with 4-0 technical points. Winning the silver medal is an excellent result for Fodor.

At the international championships that Zoltan Fodor competed in Beijing, he could no longer place in the front field. The best result he still achieved was an 8th place at the 2009 European Championships in Vilnius . At the 2009 World Championships in Herning / Denmark he only came in 27th place and at the European Championships in Baku in 2010 and in Dortmund in 2011 he finished 21st and 13th.
