Christo Marinow , Bulgarian Христо Маринов , (born March 14, 1987 in Stara Sagora ) is a Bulgarian wrestler . He became 2010 Greco-Roman Middleweight World Champion .
Career
Christo Marinow started wrestling as a teenager in 2000. He focuses on the Greco-Roman style and is one of the Rincerclub Lovech on. He is 1.78 meters tall and wrestles in middleweight, the weight class up to 84 kg body weight. Since joining the Bulgarian national wrestling team, he has been trained by Bratan Zenow and managed by Stefan Mitow. As a junior he was used by the Bulgarian Wrestling Federation at many international championships. The best result he achieved was second place at the European Junior Championships (age group Cadets) in 2004 in Albena in welterweight. In terms of good results, he has two fifth places in the junior division at the Junior European Championship 2006 in Szombathely and at the Junior World Championship 2006 in Guatemala City , both in the middleweight division.
In 2006 he took part in an international championship for the senior citizens for the first time. He lost it at the European Championships in Moscow in the first round against Bernhard Mayr from Germany and came in 15th place. Also in the years 2007 to 2009 he could not place himself in the front field at the international championships. He also failed to qualify for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Despite these rather mediocre results, the Bulgarian Wrestling Association stuck to Christo Marinow. A first success was shown at the European Championships 2010 in Baku , where he finished 11th in the middleweight division with a defeat against Lennie Persson from Sweden and a victory over Juri Malai from Moldova . He then achieved a real performance explosion at the 2010 World Cup in Moscow . There he defeated Artur Omarov , Czech Republic , Amer Hrustanovic, Austria , the 2004 Olympic champion and four-time world champion Alexei Mischin from Russia , Damian Jankowski from Poland and in the final battle also the Cuban Pablo Shorey Hernandez and thus became a sensational new world champion in the middleweight division.
In the years that followed, he alternated success and failure. He won in the European Championship 2011 in Dortmund after beating Attila Tamas, Romania and Zoltan Fodor , Hungary, losing to Vasyl Ratschyba , Ukraine and wins over Artur Omarov, the Czech Republic and Damian Janikowski , Poland, a bronze medal . At this year's World Cup in Istanbul he lost to Lee Se-yeol from South Korea in the first round and ended up in 29th place.
In 2012 he was then European middleweight champion in Belgrade, ahead of Damian Janikowski, Schan Belenjuk from Ukraine and Viktor Lörincz from Hungary. At the 2012 Olympic Games in London , he lost his first fight again, against Danijal Gadschijew from Kazakhstan. Since this did not reach the final, he was eliminated and only came in 18th place.
Christo Marinow is also well known in Germany's wrestling circles, because he wrestled for KSV Ketsch from 2008 to 2010, for AC Lichtenfels in the 2010/2011 season and for KSV Aalen in the 2012/13 season .
At the international level, he was unable to build on his earlier successes from 2013. At the 2013 European Championships in Tbilisi, he came back to a good 5th place in the middleweight division, at the 2013 World Championships in Budapest he came in 26th place, at the 2014 European Championships on 10th place, at the 2014 World Championships in Tashkent in 22nd place and at the 2015 World Championships in Las Vegas in 17th place.
In the 2016 Olympic year, he could no longer qualify for the Bulgarian team. He then stepped back.
