Career

Cenk İldem started wrestling as a teenager in Şişli in 1996. His coach has been his father Huseyin İldem, himself a former wrestler, since then. Now he belongs to the Büyüksehir Belediyespor Istanbul sports club . He focuses on the Greco-Roman style and wrestles light heavyweight . Cenk İldem attended university and is a teacher.

His international wrestling career began in May 2005 when he finished 8th in the middleweight division at the Junior World Championships in Vilnius . A month later he was then in Wrocław Junior European Middleweight Champion in front of Adlan Bisojew, Russia , Jan Fischer , Germany and Timofei Deinichenko , Belarus . He was also extraordinarily successful in 2006, because he was first in Szombathely Junior European Champion before Artur Schalinjan, Armenia and in Guatemala City also Junior World Champion before Jan Fischer, Dawit Karchawa , Georgia and Oleg Schokalow , Russia, both in the middleweight division.

With the seniors, Cenk İldem needed some start-up time to achieve success there too. After all, he was in 2008 in Thessaloniki universities world light heavyweight champion in front of Balasz Kiss from Hungary and Ioannis Arzoumanidis , Greece . In April 2010 he was then used at the European Championships 2010 in Baku in the light heavyweight division. He came there to victories over Bentsion Chundaschwili from Georgia, Dimitri Timchenko from Ukraine and David Vála from the Czech Republic . In the semifinals he was defeated by his old competitor from their junior years , Timofei Deinitschenko , only to fight for a bronze medal in the European Championship with a victory over Mirko Englich from Germany .

The next start at an international championship took place at the 2011 European Championships in Dortmund . He won there over Sinisa Hogac, Croatia and Frederik Schoen from Sweden and then lost to the Albanian Elis Guri, who was naturalized in Bulgaria . Since this did not reach the final, he was eliminated and only came in 8th place. He did much better at the 2011 World Cup in Istanbul . He won there over An Chang-gun, South Korea , Balasz Kiss, Alin Alexuc-Ciurariu, Romania and Artur Aleksanjan , Armenia . In the semifinals he suffered a defeat against Jimmy Lidberg from Sweden. By defeating Tomofei Deinichenko, he then won a bronze medal at the World Championships, combined with the right to start at the 2012 Olympic Games in London .

At the Olympic Games in London, however, Cenk İldem had no luck. He lost both fights that he played, first against Ghasem Rezaei , Iran, the later Olympic champion and against Artur Aleksanjan , Armenia, the later Olympic third, eliminated and only finished 11th.

He won a medal again at the 2013 European Championships in Tbilisi. On the way to this success he defeated Villius Laurinaitis, Lithuania and Nikita Melnikow , Russia, lost to Artur Aleksanjan and then won over Soso Jabidze , Georgia and Schalwa Gadabadse, Azerbaijan.
