David Vála

David Vála (born April 17, 1978 in Liberec ) is a Czech wrestler . He was vice European champion 2007 in Greco-Roman. Heavyweight style (up to 120 kg body weight).

Career

David Vála started wrestling as a teenager. At a height of 1.90 m, he grew up to be a handsome heavyweight and weighs around 110 kg. David Vála wrestles in the Czech Republic for the sports club PSR Olymp Prague and is trained there by Erwin Varga. He has also been wrestling in the 1st and 2nd German Bundesliga for many years. Initially for SV 04 Germania Weingarten and from the 2008/09 season for RV Thalheim . He is a police officer. David Vála initially only wrestled in the Greco-Roman style. Since 2007 he has been trying his hand at free style, including at international championships.

David Vála's international career began in 1995 when he came 13th in the weight class up to 88 kg at the European Junior Championships (Cadets) in Witten . He achieved his greatest successes in the junior division in 1997, where he took 5th place at the Junior World Championships in Turku in the weight class up to 115 kg body weight and in 1998, where he took 4th place at the European Junior Championships in Tirana and even came 3rd at the Junior World Championships in Cairo and thus won a bronze medal.

In the senior class, David Vála has been competing regularly in international championships since 1997. He achieved his first good result at the 2000 European Championships in Moscow, where Alexander Karelin from Russia won, with 5th place in the heavyweight division (up to 130 kg body weight at that time). At his first participation in the Olympic Games in Sydney he reached a good 9th place. He defeated Marek Sitnik from Poland and lost to Juri Ewseitschik from Israel and Fatih Bakir from Turkey .

In the years 2001 to 2003 he did not achieve any top positions. At least he was able to qualify again for participation in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens . He finished there in the heavyweight division after defeats against Chassan Barojew from Russia and Andrej Chekhauskoj from Belarus in 14th place.

At the 2005 World Cup in Budapest David Vála reached 9th place with a victory over Sergio Primeno from Venezuela and at the 2006 World Cup in Guangzhou he came in 8th place with a victory over Michael Taut from Canada .

He achieved the greatest success of his career at the 2007 European Championships in Sofia . He was there with victories over Matti Hämäläinen, Finland , Panagiotis Papadopoulos , Greece and ex-European champion İsmail Güzel from Turkey a . a defeat against Khassan Barojew Vice-European Champion.

He was also able to convince with a good 5th place at the European Championships in Tampere in 2008 . He won in Tampere against the multiple vice world champion and ex-European champion Mihály Deák Bárdos from Hungary , Iwan Iwanow from Bulgaria a . Oleksandr Tschernetskyj from Ukraine . He suffered defeats from Chassan Barojew and in the battle for the bronze medal from Atilla Güzel from Turkey.

For the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 David Vála, although he took part in three qualifying tournaments, could not qualify.
