European wrestling championships 2010

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ringer's European Championships in 2010 were from April 12 until April 18 in Baku in Azerbaijan held. Wrestling is in the styles Greco for men, freestyle for men and freestyle for women. In each style, medals are awarded in seven weight classes.

There were fears beforehand that Armenia might be absent from the tournament after Azerbaijan failed to compete in a tournament in Yerevan . The two countries have long been at odds over Nagorno-Karabakh territory . In fact, Armenia finally pulled through the boycott in April and did not start in the continental championships in Baku.

Freestyle, men

As in the previous year, the freestyle tournament turned out to be a duel between Russia and Azerbaijan. In contrast to the 2009 European Championship in Vilnius , this time the Russians had collected more gold medals. Silver and bronze medals remained for the other nations, above all Bulgaria, Georgia and Turkey. Except for Chetag Gasjumow from Azerbaijan, none of the athletes managed to defend the title he won in 2009.
