Serhat Balcı

Serhat Balcı (born March 15, 1982 in Istanbul ) is a Turkish wrestler , Olympic participant and multiple medalist at European championships in free style.

Career

Serhat Balcı began wrestling as a teenager in 1994. He concentrated entirely on the free style. He is a member of the Amasya Sekerspor sports club and is coached by Cahit Ahiskalioglu and Enis Çakıroğlu. The 1.78 meter tall athlete is a physical education teacher.

Serhat Balcı's international career began at the age of 16 when he became Junior World Champion in the Cadets age group in Manchester . i. up to the age of 16. The following year he came in the same age group at the World Championships in Łódź on the 3rd place. In the next age group, the juniors, he finished only 7th at the 2000 European Junior Championship in Nantes . At the end of his junior years he was again junior European middleweight champion in Tirana in 2002 .

As a junior he already competed in the weight classes up to 83 kg or 85 kg body weight. He held this weight limit until 2008. It was not until 2009 that he moved to the next higher weight class, the light heavyweight, which has its weight limit of 96 kg.

Serhat Balcı started in the senior class for the first time in 2002 at an international championship. He came in 7th place at the European Middleweight Championships in Baku . He was used that year at the World Cup in Tehran , but reached there after a victory over Alexei Mastepanow from Belarus and a defeat against the Bulgarian Arkadij Zopa only the 16th place.

At the European Championships in Riga in 2009 he had to be satisfied with 9th place in the middleweight division. For the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , he could not qualify.

He won his first medal at an international championship at the 2005 European Championships in Varna . He won over Thomas Bucheli from Switzerland , Naurus Temresow from Russia and David Bichinashvili from Germany , whom he won 6: 3 techn. Could defeat points. In the final he was defeated by the Ukrainian Taras Danko on points. At the World Cup this year in Budapest he won against Abdul Amayev from Uzbekistan, but retired after a defeat against Taras Danko and came in 15th.

In 2006 he was used at the World Championships in Guangzhou . He came in 11th place. At the Military World Cup in Baku in 2006, he came in second behind Georgi Ketojew from Russia.

In 2007 he won at the European Middleweight Championships in Sofia with victories over Miroslaw Geschew from Bulgaria, Marc Buschle from Germany and Leri Ketishvili from Georgia , the brother of Georgi Ketojew, the bronze medal . Taras Danko prevented him from entering the final . At the 2007 World Cup in Baku , Serhat Balcı achieved three wins. But he lost against Yusup Abdussalomow from Tajikistan and in the fight for 3rd place against Zaurbek Sochiew from Uzbekistan and came in 5th place.

2008 Serhat Balcı remained both at the European Championships in Tampere and at the Olympic Games in Beijing without a medal. In Tampere he lost his second fight against the Russian Naurus Temresow starting for Azerbaijan and came in 8th place and in Beijing he lost after two wins against Yusup Abdussalomov in the fight for the bronze medal against Taras Danko , which he ended up in 5th place .

At the European Championships in 2009 in Vilnius , he started in the light heavyweight division for the first time in order to avoid constant training. Although he lost in the semifinals against Chetag Gasjumow from Azerbaijan, he won the fight for the bronze medal over Nicolai Cerban from Moldova . At the 2009 World Cup in Herning / Denmark , Serhat Balci failed again in the semifinals to Chetag Gasjumow. But he managed to win the bronze medal at the World Championships with victories over Nicolai Cerban and Rouslan Scheikow from Belarus.
