Árpád knight

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Árpád Ritter (born June 12, 1975 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian wrestler . He was vice- world champion in 2005 in middleweight and European champion in 2002 and 2003 in welterweight, each in free style.

Career

Árpád Ritter grew up in Budapest and began wrestling there as a teenager in 1984. He became a member of Csepel SC and trained there by Istvan Gulyas. As a junior he was still active in both styles, Greco-Roman style and free style. As a senior he only competed in free style. As an adult he wrestled for a long time at a height of 1.78 meters in the welterweight division and only switched to the middleweight division in 2005.

He was already very successful as a junior and started at the age of 15 in 1990 for the first time in an international championship, the Junior World Championship in Szombathely . He wrestled in the age group of the "Cadets", which went up to the age of 16. He was also immediately successful, because with a 3rd place in the weight class up to 60 kg body weight, he won a bronze medal in the Greco-Roman style . In the same championship he also started in free style, but had to be satisfied with the ungrateful 4th place.

A year later, in 1991, he won the World Championship title in the Cadets Junior World Championship in Alma ( Canada ) in the Greco-Roman style in the weight class up to 70 kg and became vice world champion in the same weight class for free style.

In the next two junior age groups (Juniors, up to the age of 18 and Espoirs, up to the age of 20), Árpád Ritter was no longer so successful. He did not win any more medals in these classes. His best results were a 4th place at the Junior World Championship of Juniors 1992 in Cali , Colombia , welterweight and a 4th place at the Junior World Championship of Espoirs 1995 in Tehran , where he again finished 4th in the welterweight division. It won in its weight class Buwaisar Saitijew from Russia ahead of the South Korean Moon Eui-jae , who later also achieved many successes with the seniors.

Árpád Ritter made his senior debut at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta . He came there in the welterweight division with one win and two losses in 13th place. His defeat against Magomed Salam Gadschiew from Azerbaijan was there with 2: 3 techn. Points very close. In the further course of his career he initially achieved different performances among the seniors. Weaker results at the international championships contrasted with good ones. So he occupied z. B. at the 1997 World Championships in Krasnoyarsk in the welterweight category only 27th place, but came in an excellent 4th place at the 1998 European Championships in Bratislava . He even managed the feat of defeating Adam Saitijew from Russia on points in a preliminary round match. Because of the peculiar rules in force at the time, however, he had to compete again against Adam Saitijew in the fight for 3rd place and lost on points.

At the European Championships in Budapest in 2000, Árpád Ritter came in 5th place with two wins and one loss against Adem Bereket from Turkey . At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney , he played two fights, both of which he lost. He lost against both Gurami Michedlidze from Georgia and again against Adem Bereket and only came in 18th.

In 2001 he managed to win the first medal in the senior welterweight division with a 3rd place at the European Championships in Budapest. Buwaisar Saitijew from Russia, against whom he lost in this championship, denied him an even better place. At the 2001 World Championships in Sofia he was also able to convince, even though he just missed the medal ranks because of a defeat against Moon Eui-jae and “only” came in 5th place.

Árpád Ritter made his breakthrough at the 2002 European Championships in Baku . With five wins he became European welterweight champion there. On the way to this success he also beat the German ex-world champion Alexander Leipold with a 3-2 technical point. He suffered a setback at this year's World Cup in Tehran , because after losing two fights against Murad Gaidarow from Belarus and Daniel Gonzalez Aguillera from Cuba , he ended up in 25th place.

In 2003 Árpád Ritter succeeded in winning again at the European Championships in Riga . He succeeded there in the revenge against Murad Gaidarow and in the final battle he managed another narrow victory over Alexander Leipold (3: 2 technical points). At the 2003 World Cup in New York he lost after three victorious fights against Gennady Lalijew from Kazakhstan and finished in 7th place.

In 2004 he took part in the Olympic Games for the third time, and for the third time he failed. He lost in Athens against Buwaisar Saitijew and against Emanzios Bentinidis from Greece and therefore only came in 16th place.

At the European Championships in 2005 in Varna Árpád Ritter started middleweight for the first time, but lost in his second fight against David Bichinashvili from Germany and finished in 7th place. For the 2005 World Cup, which took place in his hometown Budapest, he trained again in the welterweight division. A measure that paid off, because with four victories he finally won a World Cup medal. It was the silver one, because in the final battle he lost again to Buwaisar Saitijew, the dominant welterweight of those years.

In the last years of his international career, he won another bronze medal at the 2007 European Championships in Sofia , which he won with a victory over Sergei Borchenko from Belarus .

Árpád Ritter failed to qualify for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing . However, he failed at the second qualifying tournament in Warsaw with a 3rd place in the middleweight division. A 2nd place would have been enough for the Olympic qualification. At the end of 2008, Árpád Ritter ended his international wrestling career.

Árpád Ritter has also been a household name in Germany for many years , as he has already played for KSV Witten 07 and TuS Adelhausen . In the 2009/10 season he started for SV Germania Weingarten .
