Joe E. Williams (born November 26, 1974 in Chicago ) is an American wrestler . He is a two-time medalist at world championships and Olympic fifth in 2004, each in free style in welterweight.

Career

Joe Williams began wrestling as a teenager in 1982 at the Harvey Twister WC (Wrestling Club) in Chicago. While attending Mtt. Carmel High School in Chicago, he developed into an excellent freestyle wrestler under coach Bill Weick , who won the Illinois State High School Championship four times . He then attended the University of Iowa , where he came into the hands of top coaches Dan Gable and Jim Zalesky, who shaped him further. In 1996, 1997 and 1999 he won the NCAA Div three times. I welterweight championships (equivalent to the US student championship).

In 1999 he finished his studies. He became a member of the renowned wrestling club Sunkist Kids WC. There Thomas Brands became his trainer. In 1999 he was also the first American welterweight champion and qualified for participation in the Pan American Games in Winnipeg and the World Championships in Ankara .
