Dan Gable
Danny Mack "Dan" Gable (born October 25, 1948 in Waterloo , Iowa ) is a former American wrestler .
Career
Dan Gable attended Waterloo West High School and started wrestling there. Between 1963 and 1966, he was undefeated in high school wrestling. After high school, he attended Iowa State University and competed there with great success. During his high school and college years, he won 400 fights and lost only two. His career culminated in his Olympic victory in Munich in 1972 . He won so well that the German specialist magazine “Athletik” wrote in the special Olympic issue: “ Just for the fights that American Dan Gable fought, it was worth coming to the wrestling judo hall. He showed a perfect freestyle fight, stylistically hard to beat. "
After finishing his active career, he was coach of the wrestling team at Iowa State University. Here, too, he was extremely successful. At his university he formed ten Olympians who won four gold, one silver and three bronze medals. In 1980, 1984 and 2000 he was the head coach of the American freestyle team at the respective Olympic Games. He was inducted into the FILA International Wrestling Hall of Fame in August 2012 for his services to wrestling .
