Soslan Ljudwikowitsch Ramonow ( Russian Сослан Людвикович Рамонов , Ossetian Рæмонаты Людвичы фырт Сослан; born January 1, 1991 ) is a Russian wrestler from South Ossetia . In 2014 he became world champion in free style in the weight class up to 65 kg body weight. He won gold in the class up to 65 kg at the Olympic Games in Rio 2016 .

Career

Soslan Ramonow was born in Tskhinvali , South Ossetia . He started wrestling there as a teenager, concentrating on free style. For some time he has been a member of the CSKA Moscow Army Sports Club . He is or was mainly trained by SF Ramonow and Anatoli Margiew.

He achieved his first successes at international championships in 2007 and 2008. In 2007 he was European Junior Champion (age group Cadets) in Warsaw in the weight class up to 54 kg body weight. He repeated this success in 2008 in Daugavpils in the weight class up to 58 kg. After that he did not appear again until 2011, when he was used by the Russian Wrestling Federation at important international tournaments due to good performance in national competitions. His victory at the Wacław Ziółkowski Memorial in July 2011 in Poznan was particularly remarkable . He won the lightweight here ahead of Adam Sobieraj , Poland, the 2008 Olympic champion Ramazan Şahin , Turkey and the multiple world champion Serafim Barzakow from Bulgaria.

In 2012 he won his first medal at the Russian championship among seniors. He took 3rd place in the lightweight behind Alan Gogayev and Adam Batirow , together with Mulid Lampeschew. 2013 Soslan Ramonow was in the lightweight behind Magomed Kurbanalijew Russian runner-up. In May 2013, he was also a member of the Russian team that fought in New York and Los Angeles, together with the United States and Iran, to keep wrestling Olympic.

In 2014 he was the first Russian champion in the weight class up to 65 kg body weight, ahead of Schichsaid Dschlilow, Magomed Kurbanalijew and Akhmed Tschakajew . In 2015, Soslan Ramonow was unable to defend his world champion title in the weight category up to 65 kg because he lost to Ichtiyor Nawrusow from Uzbekistan in the semifinals of the World Championships in Las Vegas . He secured a bronze medal with victories over Marc Popow, Israel, Tomotsugu Ishida, Japan, Borislaw Nowachkow, Bulgaria and Gandsorigiin Mandachnaran. In October 2015 he won the World Military Games in Mungyeong / South Korea in the weight class up to 70 kg, ahead of Joshgun Asimow, Azerbaijan, Muhammad Naderi, Iran and Gandsorigiin Mandachnaran.

In 2016 he became Russian champion in the weight class up to 65 kg ahead of Israil Kasjumow and Alan Gogajew, two tough competitors for the starting place at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro this year. This starting place finally got Soslan Ramonow. In Rio de Janeiro he presented himself in excellent form and won the gold medal with victories over Haislan Garcia Veranes, Canada, Alejandro Enrique Valdes Tobier, Cuba, Mandakhnaran Ganzorig, Mongolia, Ichtiyor Nawrusow and Toğrul Əsgərov .

After the 2016 Olympic Games, he did not start at any other world or European championships, with the exception of his participation in the 2017 military world championships in Klaipeda and 2018 in Moscow. In both title fights he was also title holder in the weight class up to 70 kg.
