Magomed Magomedowitsch Kurbanalijew ( Russian Магомед Магомедович Курбаналиев ; born August 6, 1992 ) is a Russian wrestler . He became world champion in 2016 and European champion in free style in 2014 and 2018 in the weight class up to 65 and 70 kg body weight.
Career
Magomed Kurbanalijew comes from the Russian republic of Dagestan. He started wrestling there at the age of 10 in 2002. The 1.68 meter tall athlete belongs to the Shamil Umakhanov School sports club in Khasavyurt . His trainers were or are Smid Raschidow and Pascha Umakhanov. Currently he is a student in Moscow, where he also lives and trains. He wrestles exclusively in free style.
His international career began in February 2010 when he took part in the "Dave Schultz" Memorial in Colorado Springs, where he reached the featherweight final, in which he narrowly lost to Mike Zadick from the United States. In 2011 he finished 3rd in the Russian Junior Lightweight Championship behind Chetag Sabolow and Bajmursa Chadissow. In 2012 he was the Russian junior lightweight champion before Chabib Batirow and Rustam Beslanejew. He was therefore used at the Junior World Championship this year in Pattaya. He justified this trust by winning the title ahead of Konstantin Chabalashvili , Georgia, Dawit Apojan, Armenia and Mustafa Kaya from Turkey.
In 2013 Magomed Kurbanalijew was the first Russian champion in the senior lightweight category in front of Soslan Ramonow, Alibeggadschi Emejew and Ilyas Bekbulatow . In May 2013 he was a member of the Russian team that fought two legendary international matches against the United States in New York and Los Angeles as part of the fight to remain in the Olympic program. However, he lost to both David Taylor and Jordan Oliver. In July 2013 he also won the Universiade in Kazan ahead of Dawit Safarjan from Armenia and Gandsorigiin Mandachnaran from Mongolia. In September 2013 he started at the World Championships in Budapest. There he defeated Jung Young-ho, South Korea and Yakup Gör , Turkey, then lost to Dawit Safarjan, whom he had defeated in Kazan two months earlier. Since Dawit Sarfarjan became world champion, Magomed Kurbanalijew was able to advance in the consolation round, in which he secured a World Cup bronze medal with victories over George Bucur, Romania and Lewan Kelechsashvili, Georgia .
In January 2014 he won the renowned "Ivan Yarigin" Grand Prix in Krasnoyarsk in the new weight class up to 65 kg in front of his compatriots Aligeggadschi Emejew, Soslan Ramonow and Akhmed Tschakajew. He then won his first international senior title at the 2014 European Championship in Vantaa / Finland. On the way to this success he defeated Arkadiusz Szeja, Poland, Konstantin Chabalaschwili , Martin Daum, Germany, Asamat Nurikau , Belarus and Servet Coşkun , Turkey. At the 2015 World Cup, Magomed Kurbanalijew was not used.
In 2015 he achieved excellent results in several very well-attended international tournaments. But he was not at the European Games in Baku and the World Championships in Las Vegas. In October 2015, he took 1st place in the weight class up to 65 kg at the World Military Games in Mungyeong / South Korea.
Magomed Kurbanalijew was unable to take part in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro because the weight class up to 70 kg in which he started is not Olympic. For this he became world champion in this weight class in Budapest in December 2016 . This world championship was only held in the weight classes that were not Olympic. Magomed Kurbanalijew defeated Aimar Andruse, Estonia, Miroslaw Kirow, Bulgaria, Mostafa Mohabbali Hosseinkhani, Iran, Raschid Kurbanow, Uzbekistan and Nurlan Bekschanow , Kazakhstan and won the title.
In 2017 Magomed Kurbanaliev hardly appeared. In 2018 he won the "Iwan-Yarigin" -Grand-Pix in Krasnoyarsk, which is considered the elimination of the Russian Wrestling Association for the European Championship 2018, ahead of Magomedrasul Gazimagomedow , Russia, Frank Molinaro , USA and Andrei Kwiatkowski, Ukraine. He then also won the European Championships in Kaspiisk in May 2018 over Andrei Kwiatkowski, Walter Margarjan, Armenia, Surabi Iakobishvili , Georgia and Magomedrasul Gadschiew , Poland and thus became European champion again. At the Russian championship, which took place a little later, he finished third behind Magomedrasul Gazimagomedow and Arbak Sat. At this year's World Cup in Budapest Magomedrasul Gazimagomedow was therefore used.
