Mike Zadick
Mike Zadick (born July 12, 1978 in Great Falls , Montana ) is an American wrestler . He was runner- up in free style featherweight in 2006 .
Career
Mike Zadick comes from a wrestling family and grew up in Great Falls. He began wrestling at the age of five in 1983 at the North Montana Wrestling Club , where his father Bob Zadick was his first coach. He attended Great Falls High School and often took part in the school championships of the state of Montana as a junior, when he was still active in both wrestling styles, Greco-Roman and free style. Four times he won the championship of this state. After high school, he attended Iowa State University. He was then a member of the Hawkeye Wrestling Club . His coaches in those years were Dan Gable and Jim Zalesky.
In 1994 he took part in the Junior World Championship in Frankfort / USA. In the weight class up to 51 kg, free style, he came in 4th place. This was his first start in an international championship. Until the next start in such a championship, it should be until 2006.
In 1996 Mike Zadick became the American junior champion in both styles, and in 1997 in free style. In those years he was fighting for the lightweight (class up to 68 kg body weight). Later he trained in featherweight (class up to 60 kg body weight). At the US student championships (NCAA Championships) he came in 2001 in lightweight on the 2nd place, in the years 2000 and 2002 he reached only 7th place in each case.
In 2002 Mike Zadick moved to the Gator Wrestling Club and in 2004 he graduated from the University in Sports Science. Since 2002 he has been an assistant trainer at Iowa State University. He has been trained there since 2004 by Terry Brands and Thomas Brands as well as Mike Duroe. He lives in Solon, Iowa and also works for a law firm.
In the years 2000 to 2005 Mike Zadick never managed to qualify for international championships. So he finished in the Olympic Trials 2000 behind Cary J. Kolat and in the Trials 2004 behind Eric S. Guerrero in each case the 2nd place in the featherweight (free style).
In 2006 he qualified for the World Championships in Guangzhou / China . He competed there in the free style in featherweight and came with victories over Saeed Azarbayjani , Canada , Aljaksandr Karnizki , Belarus , Yogeshwar Dutt, India u. Mawlet Batirow from Russia , the Olympic champion from 2004 up to the final, in which he was defeated by Seyed Murad Mohammadi Pahnekalaei from Iran and thus came silver. At this world championship his brother Bill became world champion in the lightweight, free style.
In 2007 Mike Zadick won the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro behind the 2004 Cuban Olympic champion Yandro Quintana in featherweight the 2nd place. At the World Cup this year in Baku, he lost in his first fight against the Albanian Sahit Prizreni on points. Since Prizreni did not reach the final, he was eliminated and only came in 27th place.
At the Pan American Championships in Colorado Springs in 2008 , Mike Zadick had to admit defeat in the semifinals against former world champion Guivi Sissaouri from Canada , but still achieved 3rd place there. Mike Zadick did not actually qualify for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing . The US Wrestling Association received a starting place (wildcard) in the featherweight division for this event and put Mike Zadick in Beijing. He lost there against Wasil Fedorischin from Ukraine and Basar Basargurujew from Kyrgyzstan and only came in 19th place.
In 2009, Mike Zadick became the American featherweight champion for the first time in his career.
Mike Zadick intends to wrestle through to the 2012 Olympics, which he hopes to qualify for.
