Wassyl Fedoryschyn
Wassyl Petrowytsch Fedoryschyn ( Ukrainian Василь Петрович Федоришин ; born March 31, 1981 in Kalush , Ukrainian SSR , Soviet Union ) is a Ukrainian wrestler . He is three times European champion, each time in free style in featherweight. At the Olympic Games in 2008 he was convicted of doping.
Career
Wassyl Fedoryschyn began wrestling as a teenager in 1993. After his first major successes, he became a member of the renowned Ukrainian army sports club CSKA Kiev and is or was trained there by Igor Barna and Andrei Silezki. He only wrestles in free style. At the moment he makes a living from wrestling and mainly starts for foreign clubs. He was already active for KSV Gersweiler and also wrestled for Rah Ahan (Khorasan) in the Iranian professional league . In the 2008/2009 season he went to the wrestling mat for KSV Aalen in the German Bundesliga. In December 2008 he received a special honor from the world wrestling association FILA, because he was named "Wrestler of the Year 2008".
Vasyl Fedoryschyn began his international career in the junior division, where he took part in six world and European championships and won three medals. His greatest success was winning the European Junior Championship in Sofia in 2000 in free style in bantamweight.
In 2001 and 2002 in Budapest and Baku , he was vice-European champion in the senior category. 2001 in bantamweight behind Zsolt Bakuti from Hungary and in 2002 in featherweight behind Arif Kama from Turkey . At the 2001 World Cup in Sofia , he retired before reaching the semi-finals by losing to Guivi Sissaouri from Canada and came in 5th place in the featherweight division. In 2003 he lost at the World Championships in New York after defeating Anatoli Gujdja from Bulgaria in his second fight against Yandro Quintana from Cuba and only ended up in 24th place.
2004 came Wassyl Fedoryschyn in Ankara after a semi-final defeat against Tevfik Odabasi from Turkey with a victory over Themistoklis Iakovidis from Greece in 3rd place. When he first took part in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , he achieved a. Victories over Gergő Wöller from Hungary and Guivi Sissaouri. But he lost to Yandro Quintana and could therefore only fight for the bronze medal against the Japanese Kenji Inoue . In this encounter he lost very close with 1: 2 rounds and 5: 6 techn. Points and therefore had to be content with 4th place.
In 2005 Wasil Fedorischin then became the first European featherweight champion in Varna . In the second fight he managed a narrow victory over the Russian Alan Dudajew (2: 1 rounds, 3: 2 technical points). In the final, he clearly beat the French surprise man Didier Païs on points. At the World Cup this year in Budapest he met the Iranian Morad Mohammadi in his second fight and lost against him on points. He only came in 11th place. Also in 2006 and 2007 he could not win any medals at world championships. 2006 in Guangzhou (Canton) lost again to Mohammadi and also to Noriyuki Takatsuka from Japan and thus finished 5th and at the 2007 World Cup in Baku he failed to Mawlet Batirow from Russia and Basar Basargurujew from Kyrgyzstan and landed in 11th place . Before that, however, he had become European champion for the second time in 2007 in Sofia with a victory in the final over Gujdja.
This title was followed by the next in 2008 at the European Championships in Tampere . Wasil Fedorischin defeated Adam Batirow from Russia in the semifinals and Anatoli Guidea again in the final and became European champion for the third time. After he had never won a medal at the Olympic Games and World Championships up to this point, he finally managed to do so at the Olympic Games in Beijing . He defeated there in featherweight Mike Zadick from the United States, Basar Basargurujew and Ken'ichi Yumoto from Japan and then faced Mawlet Batirow , the 2004 Olympic champion in bantamweight, in the final . Batirov turned out to be the stronger and won on points. Wasil Fedorishin was left with the silver medal.
At the European Championships in Vilnius in 2009 he came in 3rd place because he lost there in the semifinals against Adam Batirow . In the battle for the bronze medal, however, he defeated the Turk Ersin Cetin . He also fought for the same place at the 2009 World Championships in Herning . After three wins, he lost there in the semifinals against Bessik Kuduchow from Russia and finally won the battle for the bronze medal over Morad Mohammadi from Iran .
Vasyl Fedoryschyn was also very successful in 2010. He won two World Cup tournaments and took 3rd place at the European Championships in Baku . In the battle for the bronze medal, he defeated Aljaksandr Kantojeu from Belarus. He was even more successful at the World Cup in Moscow . He defeated there with Dilshod Mansurov , Malchaz Kurdiani , Georgia, Ersin Cetin , Turkey and Zəlimxan Hüseynov from Azerbaijan four world class wrestlers . In the final, however, he lost to Olympic champion Kuduchow on points (1: 2 rounds, 1: 5 technical points).
In 2011 Wassyl Fedoryschyn won another medal at the European Championships in Dortmund with 3rd place. He defeated u. a. Toğrul Əsgərov from Azerbaijan, Didier Païs from France and in the battle for the bronze medal Marcel Ewald from Germany . He suffered a defeat in the semi-finals by Sahit Prizreni from Albania . At this year's World Cup in Istanbul , he only managed to win over Hernan Guzman from Colombia . He lost to Ken'ichi Yumoto and was eliminated because Yumoto did not reach the final. He ended up in 15th place.
In 2012 he just managed to qualify for the Olympic Games in London in the third qualifying tournament he played . In London, however, he lost his first fight against Malchaz Zarkua from Georgia clearly on points and therefore only reached 17th place.
In 2017, the doping samples from the 2008 Olympic Games were checked using new methods. Fedoryschyn tested positive for Turinabol . The silver medal was withdrawn from him .
