Kenji Inoue

Kenji Inoue (born November 5, 1976 in Kyoto ) is a former Japanese wrestler . He won a bronze medal in featherweight freestyle wrestling at the 2004 Olympics .

Career

Kenji Inoue started wrestling in 1989 at the age of 13. He concentrated entirely on the free style. After graduating, he joined the Japanese Self Defense Forces and was a member of the Self Defense Forces Club Saitama , where he was trained by Hajime Wakui.

Kenji Inoue's international wrestling career began as a student when he competed in bantamweight at the 1996 World University Championships in Tehran , where he finished 6th in free style. His next international start also took place at a world championship for universities. In 1998 he won the bantamweight bronze medal in Ankara behind Alireza Dabir from Iran and Arif Kama from Turkey .

In 1999 he was used by the Japanese Wrestling Federation at the Asian Championships in Tashkent . But he could not win a medal there and ended up in 5th place in the bantamweight division.

After that, Kenji Inoue's international wrestling career stalled until 2004. In those years he was involved in many important national tournaments and championships in Japan . In 2002 he took 2nd place in featherweight at the "Japan Invitational" in Tokyo behind Ryosuke Ota, in 2003 at the "Emperor Cup" behind Hironori Sekikawa in featherweight, while he was at the "Shizuoka National Sports Festival" in featherweight won. In 2004 he won the "Meiji Ngugyo Cup" in featherweight before Hiroki Sekikawa.

In 2003 he was behind Hidenori Yamamoto and in 2004 behind Takafumi Kojima each Japanese runner-up in the featherweight division.

In 2004 he was seen again on the international wrestling mat. That year he won the Olympic qualifying tournament in Sofia in featherweight ahead of Ibrahim Abdulrahman from Qatar , Gergő Wöller from Hungary and Purvbaatat Oyunbulag from Mongolia and had thus qualified for the Olympic Games in Athens . Before the Olympics, he started in 2004 yet the Grand Prix of Germany in Leipzig and finished there featherweight behind guivi sissaouri from Canada and above Othmar Kuhner from Germany and Hossein Rezaee from Iran to 2nd place.

At the Olympic Games in Athens, Kenji Inoue lost his first featherweight fight against Damir Sachartinow from Uzbekistan , then won against Jung Young-Ho from South Korea and Lubos Cikel from Austria , lost to Massoud Moustafa Jokar from Iran and fought his way to victory Wasil Fedorischin from Ukraine received the bronze medal .

After Athens, Kenji Inoue took a break. In 2006 he made a comeback and won the "National Shakaijin Open" and in 2007 also the "Emperor Cup" before Hidenori Yamamoto. After that, however, he resigned for good. Since December 2008 he has been assistant coach for the Japanese national team of freestyle wrestlers.
