Gergő Wöller

Gergő Wöller (born March 18, 1983 in Szombathely ) is a Hungarian wrestler .

Career

Gergő Wöller started wrestling as a teenager in 1992. After initial successes, he became a member of the Csepel SC sports club and later moved to TFSE Vasas Budapest . He was or is trained by Tibor Komáromi , Istvan Gulyas, Levente Kovacs and Jenő Bódi . He focuses entirely on free style and is a sports student. Since 2005 he has been wrestling in the German Bundesliga for SV Siegfried Hallbergmoos-Goldach . In the 2009/10 season he will compete for SV Germania Weingarten .

The international career of Gergő Wöller, whose brother Akos is also one of the top Hungarian wrestlers in free style, began in 1998 at the Junior World Championships (Cadets) in Manchester . He came there in bantamweight on the 12th place. He won his first medal at an international championship at the European Junior Championship (Juniors) in Tirana in 2002 . He won there in featherweight behind Anzori Chonelidze from Ukraine a. Shalva Musiaschwili from Georgia received a bronze medal .

In 2003 he started with the seniors for the first time and came in at the European Championship in Riga with victories over Lukasz Goral from Poland and Sergeys Samotuga from Latvia and a defeat against Arif Kama from Turkey on a good 5th place. At the world championship of the same year in New York , he won his first fight against Arif Abdullayev from Azerbaijan with 5: 1 technical points. In his second fight he was defeated by Sahit Prizreni from Albania . According to the then very peculiar rules of the International Wrestling Federation (FILA), those wrestlers who lost their second fight were eliminated, while those who lost their first fight could continue wrestling. Therefore, it turned out that Gergő Wöller had to retire after the defeat against Sahit Prizreni, while Arif Abdullayev, who had been beaten by him in the first fight, could continue to wrestle. This wrestler then managed the feat of winning all five other fights he contested and thus becoming world champion . The winner over him, Gergő Wöller, landed in 22nd place.

In 2004 Gergő Wöller was able to qualify for participation in the Olympic Games in Athens with a 3rd place in the Olympic qualification tournament in Sofia . In Athens he lost both of his fights, against Ulan Nadirbek Uulu from Kyrgyzstan and against Vasyl Fedoryschyn from Ukraine and ended up in 19th place.

2005 Gergő Wöller came at the world championship in Budapest in the featherweight to two victories, but lost in the quarterfinals against Levani Chabradze from Georgia and reached the 9th place. Also in 2006 he could not place in the front field at the World and European Championships. In 2007 he won his first medal at an international senior championship. He finished 3rd at the European Championships in Sofia after a semi-final defeat against Vasyl Fedoryschyn. In the fight for the European Championship bronze medal, he defeated the Greek Themistoklis Iakovidis. At the 2008 World Cup, he finished 20th after a defeat in his second fight against the Chinese Quin He .

In 2008 he won the bronze medal again at the European Featherweight Championships in Tampere , which he secured with a victory over George Bucur from Romania. He then tried to qualify for the Olympic Games in Beijing in two tournaments . With the places 16th and 20th he failed quite clearly in this project in Martigny / Switzerland and in Warsaw .

In Warsaw he started for the last time in featherweight. After that, he only competed in the lightweight to avoid the constant draining. A first success was evident in 2008, when he took 3rd place in the lightweight world championship in Thessaloniki .

At the European Championships in Vilnius in 2009 Gergő Wöller won over Dimitar Georgiev from Bulgaria and Vitalijus Tavgenas from Lithuania , but lost to Yabral Hasanow from Azerbaijan and Malchaz Musiaschwili from Georgia and came in 5th place in the lightweight.
