Jenő Bódi

Jenő Bódi (born August 10, 1963 in Nagykőrös ) is a former Hungarian wrestler . He was European champion in 1988 in the Greco-Roman style featherweight.

Career

Jenő Bódi started wrestling as a teenager in 1974. His first club was Ceglédi SE . In the course of his career he also started for Kiskőrösi Petőfi Spartacus , Honvéd Budapest and Ganz-Mávag Budapest . He concentrated entirely on the Greco-Roman style and always started as a senior in the featherweight class (at that time up to 62 kg body weight).

He made his debut on the international wrestling mat at the Junior World Championship in 1983 in Kristiansund / Norway . It was a brilliant debut, because he was there junior world champion ahead of the German Dieter Schwind u. Sergei Kolotilo from the Soviet Union . He was then used in the same year at the World Championships for Seniors in Kiev , but had to pay a lot of money there and retired early after two defeats. In the final statement, he landed in 17th place.

In the following years he fought in Hungary with his older compatriots István Tóth and Árpád Sipos , who were very successful on the international wrestling mat, for supremacy in the featherweight division. It took until 1986 before he was used again in an international championship. At the European Championships in Athens in 1986 , however, it was not enough for him to take a top spot because he ended up in 9th place.

In 1987 he was the first Hungarian featherweight champion. He then won that year at the European Championships in Tampere with 3rd place and his first medal at an international championship. In the fight for this 3rd place he defeated the German champion Thomas Härtle clearly on points. At the 1987 World Cup in Clermont-Ferrand , Jenő Bódi just missed the finals and came in 7th place.

The Olympic year 1988 began for Jenő Bódi extremely successful because it was found in Kolbotn, a suburb of Oslo , European champion at featherweight. He left Nencho Nentschew from Bulgaria , Arutik Rubenjan from the Soviet Union and Peter Behl from the FRG behind him. At the Olympic Games in Seoul he then just missed a medal with a 4th place. The decisive factor was a defeat against the Soviet starter Kamandar Majidow , who also became Olympic champion .

Jenő Bódi won the next medal at the 1990 European Championships in Poznan . He lost there to the Soviet athlete Gennadi Atmakin , but won the bronze medal with a victory over Ryszard Wolny from Poland . At this year's World Cup in Rome he was only fourth in his pool, but achieved 7th place with a victory over the Iranian Hassan Jusefiasher.

Jenő Bódi retired early at the 1991 World Cup in Varna and only reached 18th place. For that he won at the European Championships in 1992 in Barcelona behind Sergei Martynov , who for the CIS launched and Hugo Dietsche from Switzerland a re bronze medal . At the Olympic Games in Barcelona, ​​however, he again failed to win a medal. He finished in a very good 5th place in featherweight, where he defeated the American Anthony Lee in the fight for this place .

At the European Championships in 1993 in Istanbul Jenő Bódi won a pool. In the final against Sergei Martynow he had no chance, but won the European Championship silver medal. This medal was followed by a good 5th place at the 1993 World Cup in Stockholm .

In 1994 Jenő Bódi played his last international championship. He reached it at the World Championships in Tampere but only 17th place.

After the World Championships in Tampere he resigned from international wrestling. Jenő Bódi started in 1990 for many years with clubs in the German Bundesliga. So he wrestled z. B. for KSV Wiesental and KSV Kirrlach . In Budapest he had already trained as a trainer at the beginning of the 1990s and after 1994 he became a trainer at the Hungarian wrestling center in Budapest. He is also a coach at SC Vasas Budapest . With this club he maintains close sporting relationships with the German Bundesliga club ASV Hof .
