Kolbotn Church

Kolbotn is a village in the municipality of Nordre Follo and the former administrative center of the former municipality of Oppegård in the district of Follo . Kolbotn has 6000 inhabitants and is located 13 km south of the center of the state capital Oslo .

Kolbotn is located on the north shore of Lake Kolbotnvannet and has a train station on the Østfoldbanen with a 15-minute drive to Oslo.

In the center there is an entertainment and sports center, Oppegård town hall and a shopping center. The church dates from the early 1920s.

Kolbotn has several elementary and middle schools and one secondary school.

Music and sport

The village is home to the black metal band Darkthrone , founded here in 1986 , the hip-hop duo Paperboys , founded in 1998, and the Kolbotn Idrettslag sports club , one of the largest in the country with 4000 members. Club member was the two-time Olympic champion (1988 and 1992) in the Greco-Roman wrestling Jon Rønningen . The snowboarder Helene Olafsen has recently been particularly successful . The handball and volleyball men were Norwegian champions in 1992/93. The club is particularly well-known for its successful women's soccer players, three-time Norwegian champions in 2002, 2005 and 2006 and cup winners in 2007. The Norwegian national players Solveig Gulbrandsen and Isabell Herlovsen are among the best-known players .

The polar explorer Roald Amundsen lived near Kolbotn for many years. His house is still standing and there is a small statue of him in the center of Kolbotn. The former chairman of the Norwegian Conservatives Jan Petersen is from Kolbotn. Norway's former Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik lived in Kolbotn for many years, although he is from Molde . Other well-known personalities from Kolbotn are Jan Baalsrud (war hero), Rolf Presthus (politician) and Frode Kippe (soccer player).
