Band history

The two rappers Jarle Hollerud alias Jimmi Jupiter (JJ) and Øyvind Sauvik alias Vincent (Vinni) Vagabond met in Tanzania back in 1989 . Alternately in Africa and Norway, they worked on their first hip-hop projects, which they called Reject Society and Nasty Boys . Back in Norway, the band Mindstate was formed together with two other members named MC Steven and DJ Sky Juice in the early 1990s . Mindstate first appeared on stage in 1993 during a concert against rights violence , along with bands such as Gata's Parliament , Jester and Conspiracy 2 Murda. At the Quart Festival in Kristiansand in 1996 , the band appeared as support for American hip-hop artists such as The Roots and Coolio . A year later the band broke up.

In 1999 the name Paperboys first appeared on a record. Øyvind Vinni Sauvik rapped as paperboy on the debut album of the Norwegian hip-hop group Multicyde . In 2000 Vinni and JJ signed a contract with the Scandinavian record company Bonnier Amigo Music Group and worked closely with producers Kim Høglund (aka Kakemonsteret aka Kookie ) and Keith Cook. Her debut single Moving Up with Keith Cook and KleenCut came on the rotation list of the Norwegian radio station P3 in autumn 2001 .

Since their founding in the late 1990s, the Paperboys have been the leading hip-hop band in Norway for a decade with around 100,000 albums sold, three Norwegian Grammys and 12 songs on the VG-lista , the Norwegian charts.

The rappers made their breakthrough in the summer of 2002 with their hit Barcelona in cooperation with Madcon . The single achieved gold status . The debut album No Cure for Life from the same year, which was also awarded gold, received the Spellemann Award in the Best Hip Hop category and was briefly one of the 30 best-selling albums in Norway. JJ left the band after the first album and was replaced by DJ Ole Aleksander Halstensgård aka Pope Dawg . The Norwegian hip-hop producer Tommy Tee and the Swedes from Collén & Webb were involved in the completion of the second album The Great Escape . Her third album When Worlds Collide also won the Norwegian Spellemannprise in 2005 in the Hip-Hop / R'n'B category . The single Lonesome Traveler brought the greatest commercial success . This received 4 times platinum in Norway.
